Gene Hackman

Sadly Gene Hackman, aged 95, and his wife and dog were found dead inside his New Mexico home. Authorities are not claiming any foul play at this time. Here are what I consider his best movies.

1. The French Connection
2. Hoosiers
3. The Poseidon Adventure
4. Unforgiven
5. Get Shorty

There are a bunch of movies that easily could have made the list (French Connection II, Bonnie and Clyde, Crimson Tide, The Conversation, etc) but I really liked Hackman in The Poseidon Adventure and as Harry Zimm in Get Shorty).

My favorite Hackman trivia is the fact that he was the first choice to play Mike Brady in The Brady Bunch TV show.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

So in 2020 Boston sports fans saw Mookie Betts sign with the Dodgers, Tom Brady with the Buccaneers, and now Zdeno Chara with the Capitals. Fuck you 2020!... Still one of my favorite Venn Diagrams... Morbid thought but am I the only one surprised to learn that Gene Hackman is still alive? He turns 91 in January... If you think about it - the novel Moby Dick is an exhaustive story about an elaborate murder-suicide... Wallaby Pockets would be a good name for a young adult lit hero character. I think the Harry Potter series of books would have been 10% better if the title character was called Wallaby Pockets instead... So according to the NYT Hilaria Baldwin cannot self-identify as Spanish. But what if her preferred pronoun was Senorita? Would that meet their moral guidelines? I find it amusing that if she instead wanted to be known as Henry Baldwin the NYT would instead be crucifying anyone who criticized Henry's choices... Beethoven on a Fender Guitar would be a good name for an a cappella group...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

The Patriots should be pissed the NFL still hasn't acted on Jets owner Woody Johnson tampering with Darrelle Revis... After donating my organs - I think this is what I want my ashes buried in... It is what it is - none of the Patriots coaches last year played NFL football... This is just piling on... Who knew? Gene Hackman was the producers original choice to play Mike Brady on The Brady Bunch but the studio insisted on Robert Reed... He did indeed!... Knowing that Neil Diamond wrote Sweet Caroline about prepubescent Caroline Kennedy - his song Girl You'll Be a Woman Soon is even more creepy... Speaking of Revis - with their recent trades the Bills no longer have the cap room to sign Revis if he hits the free agent market...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

The Brian Williams mess is why I think some network should just go ahead and hire Strong Bad to read the news. That network would immediately have the highest ratings and compared to Brian Williams would lose nothing in credibility... I would so love to buy property from Zdeno Chara... Anyone else hear that NBC plans to change the name of the Nightly News to "Bryan Williams Slow Jams the Truth"?... Heh heh - I love the Left Shark... New England Church sign; "Whoever is praying for snow - please stop!"... The "Cathy" comic strip with Louis CK quotes - yes please... It would be funny if Australian Bee Gees were a disease and not a cover band. Please immunize your kids against Australian Bee Gees!... "No More" the NFL Domestic Violence partner is a sham... Gene Hackman turned 84 this week. Great actor but I can't watch one of his movies without thinking about how huge his head is. I mean gigantic... Heh heh - I scream, you scream... In modern dollars the ransoms paid to free England's King Richard the Lionhearted would cost over $2 billion (34 tons of gold)... Tolstoy's 10 rules for life... A reminder - in the NFL Alex Smith is a higher paid QB than Tom Brady... Interesting article on Billy Walters - the most successful sports gambler in history... Just 58 days till Opening Day...

Top 5 - Gene Hackman Movies

Today is Hackman's 77th birthday.

I also have to mention that I cannot see Gene Hackman without thinking about how humongous his head truly is. He truly has one big melon.
