Miscellaneous Thoughts

Jason Schmidt sure would look good in a Red Sox uniform... I think it is great that Ray Bourque got the call from the Hockey Hall of Fame while out on the golf course... Where is all this offense for the A's coming from? Last night they put up 17 against the Reds... Bourque's 19 consecutive All-Star game appearances will be hard to match in any sport... The Yankees now have the biggest lead (3.5 games) among all the Divisions in MLB but the second place Red Sox' record would be good for at least a tie for first in any other Division... The league average ERA for the NL is 4.21 while the league average ERA for the AL is 4.54. I thought there would be a bigger difference between the two leagues... Have I mentioned that Kevin Brown had to leave last night's game because of a bad back? Who could have seen that coming? [sarcasm off]... Just another example of why Dan Shaughnessy is an idiot. This is from today's column on Nomar Garciaparra:
By any measure, Garciaparra is one of the most popular Sox players of all time. He's the fourth-leading hitter in franchise history, trailing only Ted Williams, Wade Boggs, and Tris Speaker.

By any measure Nomar is actually fifth all-time for the Red Sox. The player that Shagnasty neglected to mention is Manny Ramirez who has a career .327 batting average for the Red Sox (Nomar currently is at .323). I wonder why Manny's accomplishments slipped past Shaughnessy...
