Miscellaneous Thoughts

Some thoughts while I enjoy my first cup of coffee...

Here's the thing - in one of my fantasy baseball leagues, I just traded Vlade Guererro for Manny Ramirez but the trade hasn't been processed by the league yet - so Vlade's 2 HR, 9 RBI performance last night still count for my numbers. I feel guilty about this because those 9 RBI beat my Red Sox... Only one more day till Prisoner of Azkaban (yes I am a total Harry Potter geek)... Lost in the shadows of Guererro's 9 RBI was a 5 for 5 performance by David Eckstein who raised his batting average by 19 points (.279 to .298) in one night... Rookie Zack Greinke of the Royals had another solid start last night. Even though he got the loss - he still went 7 innings and gave up only 2 runs. After 3 solid starts - Greinke has a very respectable 2.37 ERA... The new Michael Moore movie is giving off Al Franken vibes. I can see it getting a ton of press coverage prior to its opening but then very few people will go to see it and it will be gone it a couple of weeks... Derek Lowe is greatful for Jose Contreras and his 7.11 ERA. Now Contreras is THE worst starter in the AL... Roger Clemens just may win the triple crown for pitchers in the NL. He is currently first in wins and second in both ERA and strikeouts. That would be amazing!... With Derek Jeter heating up - catcher Mike Lieberthal of the Phillies may just be the most underperforming highly paid player in baseball. So far this year Lieberthal is sporting .217 / .282. / .379 numbers. Lieberthal is the same age as Jason Varitek and is exhibit A why the Red Sox are hesitant to commit long term to Varitek... Let me get this straight. Michael Moore has made millions off the misery of other people - first the closing of an auto plant, then the murder of young kids at a high school and now the loss of over 3,000 Americans on a single day - and he is considered a hero for doing this by some? I hope people understand that Moore isn't giving the profits from these movies to charitable foundations. He uses the profits to stay at five-star hotels around the globe giving speeches where he bad-mouths the USA. I don't get it... Hey Edwin Jackson finally made his first start for the Dodgers this year. He threw 5 innings and only gave up 1 run to get the win. Last week someone floated the idea that the Red Sox would trade Nomar to the Dodgers in exchange for Jackson. According to the rumor - the Red Sox would then trade Jackson to the Royals for Carlos Beltran. I think the Red Sox could trade Nomar for Jackson and just keep Jackson and come out far ahead in the long run...
