Teddy Roosevelt

Hey look another post about Teddy Roosevelt! Roosevelt was very opinionated and didn't think very highly of Thomas Jefferson.

Roosevelt thought Jefferson didn't deserve credit for the Louisiana Purchase. Teddy argued that US settlers moving into the territory would have forced the matter anyway. It was far cheaper for France to sell us the "rights" to the land than defend it militarily. Besides fighting the French would have forced the US into an alliance with England which Napoleon also really could not afford at the time.

Interesting perspective from a man who was both quite a student of US history and a maker of US history.
