Stuff I found interesting and thought I'd share.
- JFK the worst President of the 20th century? He was over-rated but not close to the worst.
- Five reasons Jim Thome’s run to 600 homers isn’t getting buzz. I agree with the reasons given and while I think it is too bad Thome isn't getting more recognition - I don't think he cares. He seems like the low profile preferring type (not like a Jeter or A-Rod)
- STARS WARS done as a western. It took me a minute to get C3P0 and R2D2.
- A fast-spreading invasive plant in northern US that causes severe burns and blindness. Wow - I'll have to keep an eye out for this plant.
- Hunter Pence attempts up to cheer up two young men with unimaginably sad stories.

Baseball Flotsam and Jetsam
Miscellaneous baseball thoughts and observations.
Interesting interview with Hunter Pence of the Astros... Dusty Baker will be under the microscope for how much he uses both Johnny Cueto and Edinson Volquez. It will be interesting to monitor. Maybe it was a fluke that exceptional pitchers like Kerry Wood and Mark Prior just happened through the Cubs at the same time Dusty was managing and that both were predisposed to injuries. It's possible that Baker had little to do with it. That's not the popular opinion right now though - which again gets us back to Dusty being under the microscope with Cueto and Volquez... Dan Johnson was DFA'd by the A's. I always thought that Johnson getting double vision and having trouble hitting the ball because he got suntan lotion in his eyes would have made for a great premise for an episode of Seinfeld... Chien-Ming Wang has not had much succes at Fenway Park. He is 2-3 with a 6.17 ERA in 6 starts. That has me worried since it is guys like that who suddenly pitch a shutout after having trouble over the years...

Top 5 - NL ROY Candidates
Here are who I see as the top 5 candidates for the National League Rookie of the Year Award:
1. Ryan Braun Brewers
2. Troy Tulowitzki Rockies
3. Hunter Pence Astros
4. Tim Lincecum Giants
5. Josh Hamilton Reds
I have to think that Braun's number will be too sexy for voters to ignore (25 HR and a .331 batting average) but keep in mind that Tulowitzki actually leads Braun in Win Shares (17 to 16) for those sabermetrically inclined.
