Tuesday Flotsam and Jetsam

Have a new miscellaneous thoughts and observations post up on Substack.

Not surprised Ilhan Omar's apartment was searched by the FBI but I am curious what charges they got the warrant under. Was it the fraud involved in her going from penniless Somalian immigrant to multi-millionaire overnight, her "marrying" her bother, or some other crime? Curious people want to know.

Antifragile - It's Like He Predicted Drug Commercials

"Via negativa, of course (by removal of the unnatural): only resort to medical techniques when the health payoff is very large (say, saving a life) and visibly exceeds its potential harm, such as incontrovertibly needed surgery or lifesaving medicine (penicillin)... decision making based on payoffs, not knowledge...

And recall that under nonlinearities, the simple statements 'harmful' or 'beneficial' break down: it is all in the dosage...

...a cost benefit situation, usually results from the treacherous condition in which the benefits are small, and visible - and the costs very large, delayed, and hidden. And of course, the potential costs are much worse than the cumulative gains."

Sopranos - Columbus Day

Columbus Day Flotsam and Jetsam

Have a new miscellaneous thoughts and observations post up on Substack.

Indian Summer was first termed in New England for the nice weather after the summer harvest was brought in when the Indians would often send out war parties to massacre the settlers. Now some want to place Indigenous People's Day smack dab when that might have happened. It's not far akin from some wanting to designate October 7th as Gaza Recognition Day.

Telegraph Road - Dire Straits

College Football Thoughts

Yesterday was a crazy day highlighted by Texas losing the Red Rive Rivalry and Georgia winning in Tuscaloosa, but remember we're not even half way done with the regular season.

Was having these thoughts anyway and figured may as well jot them down and post on Substack.

Sunday Flotsam and Jetsam

New England takes on Las Vegas today at Foxboro. The Pats will be without 4 CB's from the roster. This could make for a big passing day for Kirk Cousins and the Raiders. The Patriots will also honor the 25th anniversary of the team winning the 2001 Super Bowl before the game.
