Sunday Flotsam and Jetsam
Have a new miscellaneous thoughts and observations post up on Substack.
Yesterday it rained so I sat on the couch and watched some great college football games. Today the Nor'easter continues so I will sit on the couch and watch NFL games. The grass needs the rain - many of the men in the northeast nod in agreement.

Nassim Nicholas Taleb on Socrates
"Socrates' technique was to make his interlocutor, who started with a thesis, agree to a series of statements, then proceed to show him how the statements he agreed to are inconsistent with the original thesis, thus establishing he has no clue as to what he was talking about. Socrates used it mostly to show people how lacking in clarity they were in their thoughts, how little they knew about the concepts they used routinely - and the need for philosophy to elucidate these concepts."
This helped clarify how the Socratic method works but in Taleb's words Fat Tony then eviscerates Socrates. I tended to agree with Fat Tony. Which perhaps was Taleb's objective.

Saturday Flotsam and Jetsam
Have a new miscellaneous thoughts and observations post up on Substack.
President Trump is scheduled to be at today's Texas at Tennessee game. There's no doubt the man loves football. You have to wonder how the history of the country may have been different though if the NFL let the former NJ Generals owner buy a franchise. Would he have still run for President? Talk about sliding doors.

Reminder - when in doubt when reading something here and you're not sure if I'm serious or joking - 9 times out of 10 I'm kidding. Enjoy yourself. Don't take anything too seriously but remember many a truth is said in jest.
