Like many, I've had my ups and downs regarding Hunter S. Thompson. Finding Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas while I was in high school caught me at my most vulnerable to a sex, and drugs, and rock and roll mindset. Same through college. As I got older I caught on that he was kinda a dick. Prior to his taking his own life I was convinced of that fact.
That doesn't mean we can't find nuggets of gold in places of his writing. I think this letter from his younger self is one such example.
The key takeaway from my perspective was to - STRIVE TO BE OURSELVES! Strive to be an authentic person.
