Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- 26 useful concepts for 2026. Couple of months old but new to me.

- Gravitational time dilation. Not going to lie - both time and relativity give me mental fits.

- 7 big steps to foil organizational ambushes.

- Mexican army kills cartel leader. Is it bad I want these reports to become as common as the drug boat bombings were?

  1. Special Relativity is nothing more than the extremely careful application of the Pythagorean Theorem. (Speed squared plus time squared equals the speed of light squared.)

Time is a little trickier. That's because we mean two separate things by it - your subjective perception (proper time) and the objective tick of the universal clock (time as measured by an observer infinitely far away).

My project has been to derive the laws of motion (both Newton and Einstein) from basic geometry. I think I've finally succeeded. As a bonus, it makes some predictions that simplify a LOT of modern physics.

  2. An apple famously falls from a tree because it's subject to gravity. So why wouldn't time be subject to gravity? That could help explain why the arrow of time exists.

Relativity can be understood (with a lot of work and thought) but it's the quantity I have a problem with. It's theoretically possible to graph the motion of a single molecule of water but all the water in a single ocean wave? And then consider all the waves happening all the times around the world.

BTW - still say Instant Entropy would be a great name for a demolition company.
