This song was written by Tom Petty back in 1973 back when he was still in Mudcrutch. It was offered by his record label to the J. Geils Band who turned it down. The song ended up being Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers first Top 10 single in 1979 on the Damn the Torpedoes album. 

Today would have been Tom Petty's 68th birthday. Gone way too soon.

Today is Peter Wolf's 71st birthday. In his honor here are what I consider the top songs from the J. Geils band.

Geils band was the best band ever out of Worcester.

As an aside - when J. Geils was playing at the Centrum on New Year's Eve - there was no better place to be on the planet.

Ken Jennings - the Jeopardy Uber Champion - has a post where he picks the best band from each of the 50 states. Take the picks with a grain of salt. I think they must be crap as Jennings picks the Pixies over Aerosmith for bands from Massachusetts. The J Geils Band was way better than the Pixies and they weren't close to topping Aerosmith. Hell - the Lemmonheads were a better band than the Pixies. Not to mention the Cars or Boston.
