Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Yesterday was National Cereal Day but I didn't celebrate because I couldn't find any of my favorite cereal... Grizzly Slippers would be a good name for a band...  How vulnerable Democrats will feel about Trump campaigning in their states the next couple of years... The Democrats slogan going forward should be "The Democratic Party: Embrace the Suck." Have the bumper stickers been made up yet?...  Who knew? Bon Scott wasn't even the original lead singer for AC/DC. It was a guy named Dave Edwards who Scott replaced after about a year... Supposedly Douglas MacArthur didn't spend a single night in Korea during the entire duration of the war. Can that possibly be true?... Happy 68th birthday to Hall of Famer Jim Ed Rice...

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Senator Rand Paul slams the idea of biological males competing with females. Excellent questions at the end - where are the feminists on this? Where are those who supported the original purpose of Title IX? How come they are not speaking out?

- Couldn't agree more. (HT Stephen Landry)

- The importance of being prepared.

- The problem with experts. "Our experts have become clerics."

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

No doubt in my mind that if Albert Einstein were alive today and an elementary school student in America some doctor would be telling his parents that he should be on Adderall because he can't seem to pay attention in school... Quantum Foam Pillows would be a good name for a band (or an actual line of pillows)... Interesting thread on how the Chinese Communists used persuasion on POWS in the Korean War and how it relates to social media...  Hillary remains the worst possible stage name for a stripper... The Gnomon (One Who Knows or Examines) would be a good name for a blog... "To be completely cured of newspapers, spend a year reading the previous week's newspapers." - Nassim Taleb...

Ted Williams

68-years ago today, Ted Williams reported for duty in the Korean War as a Marine Corps fighter pilot.

It would be Williams second tour of military duty after serving his country in WWII as well.

Williams is in the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Marine Corps Hall of Fame and the Fishing Hall of Fame.

Where do we find such men?

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

"Epstein didn't kill himself" might just become the real-world version of Ayn Rand's fictional "Who is John Gault"... Marine fighter pilot Ted Williams describes crash-landing his jet during a combat mission in the Korean War (1953)...  Little known fact - Sweden once invaded the Americas landing in what is now Delaware Bay in 1638... It still bothers me that Joe Thornton was traded from the Bruins. And that all Boston got back in exchange for Jumbo Joe from the Sharks was Brad Stewart, Marco Strum and Wayne Primeau was just salt in the wound... In the 17th century hat makers used mercury to separate fur from felt which often led to mental illness and also to the phrase "mad as a hatter"...  If I owned a bar or restaurant I'd post pictures of Greta Thunberg scowling on the inside door of all bathroom stalls. Maybe that's just funny to me...
