Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- I really want this bobblehead

- The guy's a badass

- Heh heh - meanwhile in Peru. Maybe it's an emotional support llama?

- Absolutely a Green Deal I could get behind

- Heh heh

- Social Security does need some changes to make sure it is viable long term. But I think any plan that doesn't include gradually increasing the retirement age to reflect increases in human longevity is just ignoring reality.

- How can you not root for Isaiah Thomas?

Social security needs to be killed, and the sooner the pain is inflicted the better. It isn't a retirement plan, it's a perpetual bribe and threat.

  2. It was never meant as a retirement plan - it was supposed to be a safety net. It's basically a tax and I think for it to realistically survive there has to be both means testing and an increase in the retirement age.

That's the reason it must go. A government is the exact wrong institution to provide safety. For decades if not centuries, social and religious organizations performed this function well. The government's entry into the social fields not only undermined those efforts, they actively and purposely undermined and outlawed them, to all our detriments. Now there are fewer services, and more expensive ones, then existed for our grandfathers, all because FDR was a damn communist.

  4. The sole role of government in a free society is to do for the community what the individual cannot do on his own. That's why fire departments, jails and highway departments are community run. Same with basic safety net services. We have to divorce and disabuse the notion that Social Security is a retirement plan - it is a tax. A tax whose purpose was supposed to be to provide for the aged citizens who can no longer provide for themselves.
