Highlighting destroys books and does nothing to help comprehension and retention. Taking pen and paper notes, on the other paw, really does wonders. Especially if you go back the next day and read your notes.
Depends on the book. I'm in the habit of reading with a highlighter but many books never get marked up. These books are brain candy - though well written you speed through them. Other books you get in the habit of just reading two pages at time because the books are so dense. These books tend to wear out highlighters,
