Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

When it comes to politics I consider myself a true independent and centrist. I know many on the right are upset with Fox News but not me because I don't watch any cable news. I am, however, disappointed in the erosion of the quality of discussion from National Review. Outside of when Victor Davis Hanson posts something - all the articles there have been pretty shoddy because hatred of Donald Trump has twisted both their hearts and their brains and made their "arguments" those of mewling quims...Have you ever heard a bad thing about Alice Cooper? Seems like such a good guy... The Boston Celtics traded Enes Kantor (who also seems like a nice guy) to Portland. I hope this move was made to make room for the return of Aron Baynes who is a free agent... Given how well Paul Krugman's other predictions have worked out - the economy is DOOMED!... People really need to be reminded that the average age for death in the US is 78. The average age of death from Covid-19 is also 78. Memento mori - we are supposed to be adults with free will not cowering sheep... I really laughed at this... Little known fact but Steven Jobs dying wish was to live to see a second Trump Presidential term...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

The NBA trade I'd like to see is Boston sending Daniel Theis and Milwaukee's 2020 1st round pick to Phoenix for Aron Baynes. It works money wise and I think the 1st round pick gives the Suns the incentive to make the move. The Celtics know that Baynes is a fit for the team and it helps them where they are weakest - against strong centers in the East like Joel Embid and Giannis... Knuffle Bunny - kids book or female self-pleasuring device? Surprise it's a kids book... John Henry has become the most unlikable sports owner in Boston. That's quite an accomplishment for a guy who broke the curse and whose team last won it all two years ago... No matter what happens in the 2020 election I'd love to see Norm MacDonald and Andrew Yang make a series of "on the road" movies together. Like the old Hope and Crosby flicks. Or maybe a re-make of the Odd Couple. Netflix make this happen... Meanwhile in Iran... What are the chances that Paul Krugman's password was "password"?... "Subordinating your ego is the ultimate form of self-confidence" quote that caught my fancy from a recent Jocko Willink podcast...

NBA Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous NBA thoughts and observations as we near official NBA free agency.

I'm 100% in favor of the Celtics offering Kemba Walker a 4-year max contract. I hope this signing comes true... That would leave just starting center as a position of need for Boston and the solution I'd love to see happen is Danny Ainge trading a 2nd round pick in next year's draft to Phoenix to get back Aron Baynes who might not be the best talent available but who we know fits chemistry wise and is familiar with Brad Stevens system. Assuming this transaction would be allowed by the CBA... There's been some speculation that Kevin Durant will file a massive lawsuit against Golden State for the way they handled his injury. I don't see this happening for three reasons. First if Durant still gets a super-max contract from some team (which he will) then where's the financial harm? Second Durant's own doctor cleared him to play in the finals. Finally Durant has made and will continue to make a boatload of money - why do something so negative that can potentially do as much damage to Durant's reputation as it would to the Warriors? Discovery is a bitch... Amused by the rumors of Houston trying to acquire Jimmy Butler. I really don't see him as a fit there because last time I checked the game is still played with only one ball. This has the potential to have the team chemistry of gummy bears and acid.  Also rumored that Boston might try to facilitate the sign and trade with the aim of getting Clint Capela which would be nice but not if it were to cost Marcus Smart. I'd be 100% against that...
