The Bonfire of the Headscarves

For Iran's protesters, the fight for women's freedom of choice is now synonymous with a desire to end rule of the ayatollahs.

With the risks these citizens are taking and the sacrifices they are making, they are proving that if any tradition needs defending 24 hours a day by armed men who have to beat people to embrace it, then it deserves to perish.

Amen to that.

The cynic in me wonders if we haven't seen the same type of "I stand with the women of Iran" social media out-poring stances as we did with the "I stand with Ukraine" social media flood the zone because the Biden Administration is looking to make a deal with the ruling elite in Iran and supporting women's freedom in Iran may hurt the money train.

 On this date in 1850 Worcester, MA was host to the first National Women's Rights Convention. That put Worcester on the forefront of the woman's suffrage movement. 

Seeing how Worcester was also the birthplace of the birth control pill - it can be argued that Worcester was one of the most important cities in terms of woman's rights in the entire US.
