The terms offered by Grant were a testament to American magnanimity and generosity. As far as I know there is no example like it anywhere else in world history. May God bless America.

It was the first time in American history democrats were denied democracy by force. They still remember it and have refused to surrender again. Mainly because they claim to care deeply enough to enslave everyone for their own good. They have a long and tumultuous history of being incompatible with civil society, representative government, morality and our constitution.
