Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Federal Reserve working paper suggest Biden illegal immigrant wave drove up home prices 30%. Thought that Fed high interest rates depressed the housing market? How does this effect the housing market going forward? Especially if interest rates drop as expected?

- Kevin Kelly: Quiet My Exoself. Every person could be a potential Ironman.

- Springtime for Platner Ends. Golf clap for headline but allegations are horrific.

- The Last Stand and the Rockstar of American Literature. Admit that I've been put off by the casual racism of Jack London but maybe I should give him another chance.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Dr. Jay Bhattacharya announces new policies at NIH to increase freedom, science and trust. This is what we voted for.

- Paramount (CBS) in talks to buy The Free Press for up to $200 million. So "free" costs $200 million. Meanwhile look for CBS editors and producers to leave because they are used to their bias and don't like "free press."

- The illusion of Fed independence. Interesting history of the Federal reserve and "independence."

- Glenn Reynolds: Saving Democracy. He's not wrong,

The Fakery of “Fighting Inflation”

Some interesting points made here. Some nuance may be oversimplified but in the whole I agree with the argument.

In government and at the Federal Reserve it should be the same as with doctors - first do no harm. But instead the bankers feel they must tinker to show they're doing something. And generally there's no repercussions for when their tinkering goes wrong.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- NASA's Lucy Mission scheduled to launch in October 2021 to explore the Jupiter Trojan steroids looks fascinating.

- Skydiving instructor who died in tandem jump took his own life police say. What a strange story. I have to wonder since it was a tandem jump if the person the instructor was jumping with was just so obnoxious that dropping to his death seemed like the best choice at the time? I know I'm an awful person for thinking that (but now you're wondering that too!)

- Looks like I won't be buying any headphones from Sennheiser. Not worth the security risk.

- Heh heh - dad photoshops daughter in dangerous situations to freak out relatives. I might be a bad dad because I might have done a couple of those in real life.

- Wow - NASCAR viewership has fallen off a cliff. Thanks Obama!

- Well I guess Peter Dinklage should be the next Fed Chair then
