Brothers in Arms

Last night I saw Kareem Abdul Jabar on The Daily Show. He was there to talk about his new book Brothers in Arms: The Epic Story of the 761st Tank Battalion, WWII's Forgotten Heroes. I may give the book a shot if I see it in a book store.

The idea of Kareem Abdul Jabar as historian may seem strange at first but it reminded me of the story of how David McCullough started as a historian. Basically, McCullough was interested in finding out some information on the Johnstown flood and was surprised to find that there wasn't any books on the subject. So McCullough took it upon himself to write a book on the flood and has been an historian ever since.

Kareem also had a story he was interested in that hadn't been told. Who knows - maybe Kareem will produce something as good as McCullough's Truman at some point down the road?
