Have a new miscellaneous thoughts and observations post up on Substack.
Yesterday I used the phrase "our long national nightmare is over" to describe the return of football. ESPN used the same phrase to open SportsCenter. I wasn't copying them and they certainly weren't copying me. It's just a common phrase. Likewise others use "flotsam and jetsam" though I've been posting a column of that name for about 20-years. I didn't come up with the phrase - it happens to be the title of one of my favorite LOTR chapters. JRR Tolkien also didn't come up with it either. It was a common nautical term long in use. That's just the way it goes.
