Bill Gates and the "Surplus Population"

"If these shadows remain unaltered by the Future, none other of my race," returned the Ghost, "will find him here. What then? If he be like to die, he had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."

Scrooge hung his head to hear his own words quoted by the Spirit, and was overcome with penitence and grief." - Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol

Bill Gates is much worse than Scrooge. Gates too wishes to decrease the surplus population but unlike Scrooge I don't think Gates is capable of penitence or grief. Also Scrooge never racked up frequent flyer miles going to Epstein's Pedo Island multiple times.

A Christmas Wish

Every year at Christmas I re-read A Christmas Carol. It is a very short book (not even a long short story really). It is my personal Christmas tradition.
"Spirit! are they yours?" Scrooge asked, horrified. He could say no more.

"They are Man's," said the Spirit, "and they cling to me, appearing from their fathers. This boy is Ignorance. This girl is Want. Beware them both, but most of all beware the boy, for on his brow I see that written which is Doom, unless the writing be erased
."

- Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol
I hope in the year to come that you can work to erase ignorance in your life and want in the lives of those you love.

Merry Christmas - God bless us everyone!

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Taking a page from the books of others - I am placing the blame for the Pats loss Sunday to the Steelers squarely on Global Warming. It wasn't the penalties, the mistakes, the turnovers - it was Global Warming. I will now stick my head in the sand.. Baseball Hall of Famer Pud Galvin was born on Christmas Day 1856. He was nicknamed Pud because he made batters look like "pudding" at the plate not because he was a dick... Who knew? Peter Gabriel's first choice for the female lead on the song Don't Give Up wasn't Kate Bush - it was Dolly Parton!... Random thought - Spare Time would be a great name for a bowling alley... "Ball Peen Hammer" sounds like it could be a sex act straight from the Urban Dictionary. Is "peen" even used in any other phrase?... The 1951 version of A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim is the best ever made. The second best is the 1999 version with Patrick Stewart... Kirsty MacColl was killed 18-years ago today. RIP...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Today is Monkey Day. I kid you not. Happy Monkey Day... Study: 87 Percent Of Movies Would Be Better With Michael Keaton In Them. Two things - doesn't Michael Keaton have a huge forehead? Second - this Onion piece reminds me of my belief that you could immediately make all the Ben Affleck and all the Ben Stiller movies 100% better if you switched those two in the starring roles. Think about it... Craig James for Senate is an anagram for "A Magnesia for Rejects"... This math is truly incredible. The odds of Tebow's historic stretch of wins? 1 in 27 million... The 1951 version of A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim is the best ever made. The 2nd best was the 1999 version with Patrick Stewart... I am disappointed to announce that today I too failed to discover the Higgs Boson. There will be no press release... If I had the room on one of my walls - I would want one of these. Thank You Very Much

I can't watch or hear that song without smiling. The 1970 version of Scrooge is not the best but this song always makes me happy - and isn't happiness what Christmas is all about? I also have to say that Albert Finney is a very under rated actor. Can you believe that's the same guy from Miller's Crossing?
