Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Glenn Reynolds: Goodbye Dolly. There's the famous buoy marking the furthest point south in the US and the statue of Dolly may come to represent the furthest point on Earth closest to Heaven.

- Jonathan Turley: Clyburn calls for packing the court with "bakers dozen" to flip cases.

- Icelandic voters reject proposal to restart talks to join EU. Although think it should be pointed out there's roughly 48 US cities with greater populations than Iceland - just saying.

- How the strategic petroleum reserve works. With the news out of Venezuela thought this was a good refresher.

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Dolly Parton - a saint? Never thought of it that way but I've also never heard of anyone who more closely matches the criteria.

- The Mount Rushmore of Nuclear. History everyone should be aware of.

- LSU poised to sign former NFL players after SEC agrees to comply with court order. Lane Kiffin really leaning into the black hat.

- John Deere's revenues boosted by datacenter construction. Orders are full for the rest of the year.

Got to Love Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton is the epitome of decency and class. She knows she's never been a Rock and Roll singer and has no business in their Hall of Fame. If only the people who run the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame had as much common sense.

Jolene - Medieval Style

Currently reading a book on the Middle Ages and this song came to mind.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Dolly Parton is the best. Someone who truly lives by what Warren Buffett calls an Inner Scorecard... Nullius in verba (take nobody's word for it)  is the motto of the Royal Society which was once the gold standard for science. Today it seems some in science would have you believe the words of "experts" blindly like sheep... At least Oprah earned her money. The other two are nothing more than parasites... Insect Social Life would be a good name for a band... May be satire but it's pretty spot on for how I feel...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

America's sustained competitive advantage stems from our vast natural resources and our freedoms. Of the two our freedoms are by far the most important and irreplaceable. And we are chipping away at the bedrock of our freedoms - sometimes it seems with sledgehammers... No need to call me Lord... Peter Gabriel's first choice for the female lead on the song Don't Give Up wasn't Kate Bush - it was Dolly Parton! Just another example of how legendary Dolly is... Sadly this is true!... Time to dust off my Ben Ben Theory. I have a theory that if you substituted Ben Stiller for Ben Affleck and vice versa in any of their movies - the movie would automatically become much more interesting to watch... You may be cool but you'll never be as cool as Debbie Harry lounging in her New York apartment under an Andy Warhol portrait of herself...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Taking a page from the books of others - I am placing the blame for the Pats loss Sunday to the Steelers squarely on Global Warming. It wasn't the penalties, the mistakes, the turnovers - it was Global Warming. I will now stick my head in the sand.. Baseball Hall of Famer Pud Galvin was born on Christmas Day 1856. He was nicknamed Pud because he made batters look like "pudding" at the plate not because he was a dick... Who knew? Peter Gabriel's first choice for the female lead on the song Don't Give Up wasn't Kate Bush - it was Dolly Parton!... Random thought - Spare Time would be a great name for a bowling alley... "Ball Peen Hammer" sounds like it could be a sex act straight from the Urban Dictionary. Is "peen" even used in any other phrase?... The 1951 version of A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim is the best ever made. The second best is the 1999 version with Patrick Stewart... Kirsty MacColl was killed 18-years ago today. RIP...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Sure call me a misogynist but I still say the push-up bra might be the best thing since sliced bread... And speaking of misogyny - free the nipple!...  For the record - I did not order the code red! You're goddamn right I didn't!... I guess you could say this was true... Who knew? Van Morrison's Brown-Eyed Girl was originally written as "Brown-Skinned Girl"...  Just saying but did anyone ever see Frank Sinatra and DB Cooper in the same room? Coincidence? You decide... How can you not love Dolly Parton?...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Dolly Parton is a great American. She has promoted reading by giving away 1 million books. ONE MILLION BOOKS A FREAKING MONTH! Wrap your brain around that... "Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts." - Richard Feynman. A quote to keep in mind every time you read a newspaper or an article online... Japanese WFT? Seriously WTF!... I think the word "disseminate" should refer to when a man masturbates to climax... Who knew? Ulysses S. Grant is the only person on regularly used US currency who actually graduated from college... Spherical Bastards would be a good name for a band (bastards no matter what angle you looked at them)... Dolly Parton truly is an American treasure...
