Christmas Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous Christmas related thoughts and observations.

What came first - the Elf on a Shelf phenomenon or the NSA spying on all your data? The two seem to be related. Maybe the NSA invented Elf on a Shelf in order to get all new generations used to being watched all the time... As we enter the Christmas season a gentle reminder - if you play The Christmas Shoes on the jukebox I should be allowed to throw darts at you. No exceptions!.. Confession: I have never seen the movie A Christmas Story. No plans to see it this year either... Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Pud Galvin was born on Christmas Day 1856. He was nicknamed Pud because he made hitters look like "pudding" at the plate. Not because he was a dick... If I worked at a radio station that played Christmas music 24/7 - I would play the soundtrack to Die Hard over and over. Then quit!... The phrase "get bent" is supposedly short for "you should get bent over so that someone can sodomize you on Christmas." Oh those Brits! And a Merry Christmas to you too!...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Taking a page from the books of others - I am placing the blame for the Pats loss Sunday to the Steelers squarely on Global Warming. It wasn't the penalties, the mistakes, the turnovers - it was Global Warming. I will now stick my head in the sand.. Baseball Hall of Famer Pud Galvin was born on Christmas Day 1856. He was nicknamed Pud because he made batters look like "pudding" at the plate not because he was a dick... Who knew? Peter Gabriel's first choice for the female lead on the song Don't Give Up wasn't Kate Bush - it was Dolly Parton!... Random thought - Spare Time would be a great name for a bowling alley... "Ball Peen Hammer" sounds like it could be a sex act straight from the Urban Dictionary. Is "peen" even used in any other phrase?... The 1951 version of A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim is the best ever made. The second best is the 1999 version with Patrick Stewart... Kirsty MacColl was killed 18-years ago today. RIP...

Christmas Flotsam and Jetsam

Christmastime miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

What has ruined Christmas music more for you? Radio stations that start playing Christmas songs 24/7 since Thanksgiving or Yoko Ono's back-up "singing" on John Lennon's Happy Christmas (War is Over)... A very touching Christmas Bloom County... Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Pud Galvin was born Christmas 1856. He was nicknamed Pud because he made hitters look like "pudding" at the plate. Not because he was a dick... Dear Jack Edwards - we wish you a merry Christmas too... History factoid: The official signal for the scramble to evacuate the US Embassy in Saigon 40-years ago was the playing of Bing Crosby's White Christmas... They were trying to kill each other again the next day...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous Christmas Night thoughts and observations.

If I was to start a new blog today I'd name it Occasional Reflections on Several Subjects after the book by chemist Robert Boyle. I just like the name... Heh heh - words of wisdom from Henry F. Potter "No man is a failure who has friends. Unless he has no money. Then he's a miserable failure"... Bacon Wrapped Steak Fries...I can't believe I just learned of this!... Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer And Friends: Where Are They Now?... If you are a boxing or poker fan this is well worth your time - interview of Billy Baxter a member of the Poker Hall of Fame and a man who was accused of fixing the Hagler-Leonard fight... Terry Francona's son Nick - the Wharton School graduate and second lieutenant in the USMC. Cool story by Gordon Edes... Hall of Fame pitcher Pud Galvin was born Christmas 1856. He was nicknamed Pud because he made hitters look like "pudding" at the plate not because he was a dick... Ernie Harwell's touching Christmas card to all of Detroit... Fun fact: The official signal for the scramble to evacuate the US Embassy in Saigon 34-yrs ago was the playing of Bing Crosby’s ‘White Christmas’... After tonight's loss the Tennessee Titans are now only 1-9 ATS vs. teams with winning records and is now 0-6 the last 6 times playing the Chargers... Them Crooked Vultures - how could I have not heard of this band?... Hope everyone had a good Christmas...
