U.M.C. - Bob Seger

I'm not a member of the U.M.C. but been told this song could be about the way I live.

No Man's Land

Bob Seger has so many hits that a song as good as this can slip through the cracks.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

If I were to run for office in 2022 my campaign slogan would simply be "Enough is Enough." I think that would resonate so much that an Enough is Enough Third Party could actually win a good number of elections taking voters from both sides of the aisle... We are less than 3-weeks from the White House Correspondents Dinner (April 24th) yet we've heard surprisingly little about the event. What are the odds it gets postponed or cancelled for *cough* COVID *cough* reasons? The real reason will be that President Biden isn't competent enough to handle such a non-scripted event. If the Nerd Prom gets cancelled look for articles about the 25th Amendment to suddenly become de rigueur... Hill I'll die on - Bob Seger is a superior artist to Bruce Springsteen. Love them both but seriously when do you ever hear a Bruce Springsteen live version of any of his songs on the radio or elsewhere? Meanwhile Bob Seger songs are almost always the live versions because he's that damn good. Also willing to bet Seger had more "hits" than Springsteen... The hospital in the Harry Potter books was called Saint Mungo's. Did you know there was an actual Saint Mungo? He's the patron saint of Glasgow, Scotland... Cult of Inhibitions - band name or all-inclusive singles resort?...

Top 5 - Perfect Albums

Cultural Offering has a list of "Perfect Albums". I agree with most of his selections and the ones where I'm not in 100% agreement is only because the album is new to me (but I'll try to rectify that). That said - here's 5 albums I'd suggest adding to the list:

1. Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
2. Live Bullet - Bob Seger
3. Back in Black - AC/DC
4. London Calling- The Clash
5. Frampton Comes Alive - Peter Frampton

Just missing the cut - The J. Geils Band "Live" Full House and the Grosse Pointe Blank Soundtrack (highly recommended but not sure if soundtracks are allowed).

100 of My Favorite Songs

Today's offering (41) Traveling Man / Beautiful Loser by Bob Seger. (Yes I know that it's technically two songs but you almost always hear the live version paired together.)

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting and thought I'd share.

- Jon Heyman is Leaving Sports Illustrated for CBS Sports. Don't always agree with his analysis but Heyman is a hard worker, good writer and excellent guy.

- Heh Heh

- Interesting George Will column on how Obamacare is harming small business

- 10 Ways Shakespeare Changed Everything

- Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger Perform 'Old Time Rock & Roll' in NYC. Not for nothing but Springsteen seems to age like Clint Eastwood while Seger seems to be going the Winfred Brimley route.

- Awesome - Ugly Renaissance Babies

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Red Sox owner John Henry tweeted this morning "Sox/Yankees biggest rivalry in US. LFC/MUFC biggest rivalry in the world. Typical match draws far more than triple the Super Bowl viewers." The LFC is Liverpool and MUFC is Manchester United. John Henry happens to own the Liverpool Football (soccer) Club. If this is really the case (and I'm not doubting it) someone should ask him if MLB should change the name from the World Series to the North American Series given the relative scope of the game... Southern lights from space... Is there anyone out there still legitimately steamed that Derek Jeter skipped the All-Star Game? Anyone?... Obama has a secret plan to take $4 trillion spending out of the budget just like John Kerry had a secret plan to get us out of Iraq... Richard Nixon's Humble Last Meal as President... It would be interesting to compare the number of albums and hits between Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band versus Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. I would guess that they would be almost equals in terms of straight "stats"... Speaking of Springsteen - I have to think that the people not in loop in the recent Bruce Feldman / ESPN drama must have thought #FreeBruce was some sort of Springsteen MP3 giveaway... When good things happen for good people. Cleveland Indians starter Justin Masterson is now 8th in the American League in ERA (2.80), 13th in innings pitched, 20th in strikeouts (95) and 20th in WHIP. Good for him... What's not to like about Miguel Angel Jimenez? He loves golf, cigars and wine and has a stretching routine that would make any weekend duffer proud.
