Crypto - This is Like the Internet

Crypto and Web3 is the first thing Marc Andreessen has ever compared to "the Internet."  This is significant for a number of reasons. Obviously it's important that the comment comes from Andreessen, one of the founding fathers of the Internet. Then there's the empirical truth that both many of the founding VC's of the Internet and many of today's brightest engineers are jumping into Web3 with both feet.

It's like a tsunami of change that currently only appears as a small wave in the distance. But it's coming nonetheless. 

Is It Too Early to Get Excited about Web3?

Interesting, even-handed, look at Web3 and if it is too early to get excited about it.

The article is a couple months old but it was new to me. Wonder if the Canadian government freezing the fiat currency accounts of protestors and the fact more Americans own crypto (24%) than have savings accounts (23%) would have changed the authors mind? Now is it time to get excited about Web3?

Amused by the story of Marc Andreessen blocking Jack Dorsey on Twitter because of Jack's Web3 comments. 

I wonder if Jack would have been blocked if he were still CEO of Twitter but angered by Jack's comment that he's against "corporate controlled lies." This from the guy who founded a platform that censored any mention of Hunter Biden's laptop. Jack has been given a pass by too many people.

I too have blocked @Jack. Merry Christmas ya filthy bearded animal.

Great Protocol Politics

The 21st century doesn't belong to China, the United States, or Silicon Valley. It belongs to the internet.  Interesting article by Parag Khanna and Balaji Srinivasan. 

They look at 10 ways in which the world is transitioning from an age of geopolitics to one of "techno-politics" - in specific crypto currencies and Web3.

Constitution DAO Aftermath

'Buy the Constitution' aftermath: everyone very mad, confused, losing lots of money, fighting, crying, etc.

Interesting look at what happened when the crypto-crowd-sourced bid to but a copy of the US Constitution failed. Obviously Web3 and DAO's still have a lot of wrinkles that need to be worked out.

In other unrelated news Gamestop stock was at $247.55 at last night's market close.

Cryptocurrency Wallet Built Right Into the Browser

Browser maker Brave announces it has built a cryptocurrency wallet right into their browser.  

This is a big next step in the evolution of the Internet.

Web3 DAO to Buy the Constitution Tonight?

One of the privately owned copies of the US Constitution goes up for auction tonight and Web3 enthusiasts have banded together to buy it. 

Of the 13 original copies of the US Constitution there are only 2 that are privately held and this group has raised over $40 million for the task of buying the one up for auction tonight. And I really think they're going to do it!  This will be a huge public relations win for cryptocurrency in general and for Web3 as well.

The symbolism is off the charts.

EDIT: The DAO just lost out as the winning bid was $43.2 from a private collector.

Notes on Web3

This post had some interesting and valid criticisms of Web3. But this one really got me thinking:

Web3 promises rewards - maybe even a kind of justice - for "users," but Ethereum doesn't know anything about users, only wallets. One user can control many wallets; one bot can control many wallets; Ethereum can't tell the difference, doesn't particularly care.

While the above rings true - what would a Web3 bot look like? And if it was something that was able to make "money" via generating "likes" - wouldn't that be kind of cool? An AI that makes you laugh or think new thoughts? Are you as curious what that would look like as I am? And if successful wouldn't that bot be creating not scamming? Or am I way off base here.
