Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

How the world will end according to my latest fever dream - someone will bet Elon Musk that he can't boil the oceans... Have to think with the move of many companies to work from home flexibility and with new broadband sources like SpaceX's Starlink service I believe that many people may be adopting a van life / RV lifestyle in the not too distant future... The perfect counter programming for the All-Star game would be a UFC title card held in Atlanta that same night. Dana White could even have former President Trump as his guest of honor. That event's TV ratings would dwarf baseball's. Only problem is the UFC just signed a big contract with ESPN and ESPN is broadcasting the All-Star game... Speaking of the All-Star game - Joe Biden and Rob Manfred giving this guy a run for his money... Funny but 4-years ago the best basketball team in NYC was arguably the Harlem Globetrotters. The Knicks and the Nets have come a long way...

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- What has Covid-19 taught us about remote work?

- How simple ideas lead to scientific discoveries

- Vaping innovation and its enemies

- Inflammation and insulin resistance. Can high dose aspirin in Type II diabetics significantly drop blood glucose after just 2-weeks? Looks like the answer is "YES" (article from 14-years ago but has not been refuted)

- The year without the flu. Cynics could say that there was "no flu" because all flu cases were counted as Covid-19 cases.

- Washington Post correction points to larger issue with agenda-driven anonymous sources. Still say one way to help correct this is to require social media to label any stories with anonymous sources as "Potentially Fake News" - no matter the media outlet that originates them.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

The number of Americans working from home are now up to 44% up from just 17% before COVID-19 hit. Those numbers aren't going to go back to the high teens probably ever... Never knew this movie existed. When Sean Connery's brother played James Bond's "brother"... Tom Brady is 4th in the NFL in passing yards and 3rd in TD's. His turning Tampa into a Super Bowl contender at age 43 is a great story-line which may be translated into a lot of support for him potentially being the league MVP... If "gormless" is a word - shouldn't "gormfull" also be a word?... I'd be OK with this...  Did you know Honeymoon Rhinitis is an actual medical condition? It would also be a good name for a band...
