More Linky Links

More stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Glenn Reynolds: Mask bullies don't want to persuade you - but to humiliate and rule you.

- Harry Truman's finances weren't what we were led to believe. Slightly disappointed by this revelation but hardly surprised. (HT Newmark's Door)

- Steven Pressfield: Write the Big Moment Big

- Holy crap! Bambi is a stone cold killer if you mess with Thumper!

  1. Why disappointed about Truman? He was a political hack and coward directly responsible for the Korean War and 70 years of Chinese aggression. If he hadn't muzzled MacArthur, Korea is a win, Vietnam never happens, and the last half century looks very very different.

  2. I bought into the McCullough version of Truman which makes the truth both disillusioning with the side benefit of making me feel a little like a sucker. That's a disappointing feeling to have.

    1. Lessons learned hard are the ones remembered best. I hope you don't have similar rose colored glasses about JFK and the rest of his clan, because it'll be a very rude awakening if you do.

    2. Ha - never trusted Doris Kearns Goodwin the way I trusted the way I trusted McCullough (though in fairness to McCullough much of the info wasn't available when he was writing his book).

As a first generation Irish-American all the Kennedy stuff was met with "Of course he did that" or "he's still our guy."
