Untold: Johnny Football

Saw Netflix's new documentary Untold: Johnny Football and have a review up on Substack.

If you lived through the Johnny Manziel experience this is worth a read whether you've seen the documentary or not. It may even make you want to see it.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Bitcoin off to a rough start in 2015. I don't own any Bitcoin but wouldn't turn it down if anyone wanted to donate.

- Johnny Football gets heckled, doused with drinks. I feel bad for Browns fans at this point.

- Is this story getting so little exposure because this is now expected behavior for Bill Clinton? Hillary can forget any thoughts about running in 2016 because I have a feeling there are people out there just dying to share their Slick Willie stories.

- Harvard professors upset because Obamacare is now costing them money. I have to laugh but then I remember that Obamacare costs me an extra $320 per month for the same plan I had before the country was snookered by Harvard mouth-breathers.

- My  heart aches for Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak and his wife.

Player Comparison

With the college bowl season winding down thoughts will soon turn to the NFL Draft. In the next few months get ready to start seeing this quarterback comparison on a regular basis:

Player A - 6'5" 228 pounds
Player B - 6'0" 209 pounds

Based on my set-up you might think Player A was going to be Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater but he's 6'3" 196 pounds and you might have thought Player B was going to be Johnny Maziel who is very close at 6'1" 209 pounds. In reality Player A is Phillips Rivers and Player B is Drew Brees. I keep thinking that when it comes down to QB's in the 2014 NFL Draft that NFL GM's will be facing a similar situation to what the Chargers faced in 2005. The classic QB body athlete or the "under-sized" playmaker.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Floyd Mayweather tweeted "'Congrats @JManziel2 for putting on fantasy show' He may nt b able to make $ off himself and I can" and he attached this betting slip.

- Mariano Rivera is a great man. A great man.

- Cool photo of lightning in the Grand Canyon

- What does it look like when you put a camera on the back of a Bald Eagle? It looks awesome!

- Cool - how far did Rocky run during his training sequence in Rocky II?

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Today is September 11th. This is a touchstone date for Americans for obvious reasons - even though the pain and the memory and the anger seem to subside a little each year.  The same is not true for many in the Muslim world. From last year's attack in Benghazi (a filmmaker? you have to be frigging kidding me as an excuse) to the fact that today marks the 330th anniversary of the end of the siege of  Vienna which basically ended Muslim attempts to conquer Europe by land... Interesting interview of the writers of Rounders - a sequel may just happen... Confession - I am 100% Irish but am much more likely to get drunk the first Sunday of NFL football than I am on Saint Patrick's Day. This year was no exception... Doug Gottlieb has an interesting and personal take on the Johnny Manziel situation... How the owners of all 32 NFL teams made their money...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Chad Finn mentioned yesterday that Jarrod Saltalamacchia has a higher slugging percentage than Giancarlo Stanton this season. I had to look that up to double check. While it may have been true so far this season it is certainly not close for their careers. Stanton now sits at .439 and .533 for his career while Salty's numbers are .447 and .423 respectively (not that anyone outside of baseball geeks care about this)...  Excellent point! If the NCAA lets Johnny Manziel slide then Dez Bryant should sue the NCAA for everything they have in the bank!... I know this is post Shark week but I wonder if remoras were called "cuddle fish" instead - would that change the way you look at their relationship to sharks? Would it change the way you look at cuddling in bed?...  25 things that turned 25 this year... 29 years ago Ronald Reagan joked about outlawing the Soviet Union. Today the Russian President just thinks his US counterpart is the joke... Howie Carr on the conviction of Whitey Bulger (audio)... The blacksmith who makes the weapons for Hollywood. It must eat him up a little that he doesn't work on Game of Thrones...
