Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Congress should go retro on its correspondence. Agree 100% and also agree on Thomas Sowell.

- The banality of evil. We need to be reminded to remember this fact from time to time.

- I though all Australia was a gun free zone? Did anyone get Jim Jeffries response?

- The Paris Accords are a failure.

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- The Paris Delusion: The touted achievements of global climate initiatives aren't rooted in reality. How dare they!

- UAB football player arrested after stabbing two teammates. This is a sad story all around.

- Tyler Cowen's best non-fiction books of 2025. Wish he'd rank them but as it is I added a couple in subjects that interest me.

- Court Filings allege Meta downplayed risks to children and misled children. Why anyone is on Meta (Facebook) is beyond me.

Annual CO2 Emissions

This article does a good job to peg the bulk of CO2 emissions coming from Asia but it's recommended path of action is Pollyanna-ish and foolish. Lots of talk about massive solar projects but two words missing throughout - Nuclear Power.

Our "moral example" means squat to China. We should not tank our economy in the hopes China will "see the light."

When looking at the graph above remember both China and India signed the Paris Accords in 2015.  Don't trust China - China is asshole!

China and Coal

China tells the outside world that they are going "green" and are committed to renewable energy sources. But the truth is what they are committed to is burning coal. China now burns more coal than almost all the industrialized nations combined.

Part of me understands. Coal is a source of energy available domestically. "China's dependence of energy imports rose from 9% in 2014 to more than 20% in 2016." There seems to be no end to the demand for more energy in China. So why not try to maximize what resources you have at hand?

But China is also a signatory to the Paris Climate Accords. And it bugs me that I'm supposed to give up plastic straws while much of the world seems content to let China slide on saying they are committed to "green" energy and "clean coal".

Climate Change

This article makes a good argument that technology, not alarmism, will help tackle climate change. But while reading it I found myself getting upset on two fronts.

First God damn the people like Al Gore who make alarmist global warming climate change dire predictions for the purposes of either scaring people into voting for them or giving them money (or both).

It ticks me off to hear Joe Biden speak about the need to act on climate change. He was in office for 8 years as VP. What are the Obama Administration's accomplishments on the subject? Answer that one Joe!

And don't give me "Trump pulled the US out of the Paris Accords." The United States has lowered CO2 emissions more than any of the remaining signatories of the Accords which are basically just a fig leaf to cover the inaction of nations and leaders. And while I'm at it let me point out that energy producing Texas has done much more to lower CO2 emissions than tree-hugging California. Hypocrites really piss me off!

Secondly, even though I'm a big proponent of nuclear power, what if there's nothing we can actually do? Even if we go 100% nuclear power and renewables what if the change in climate is due to things outside our control? Things like solar cycles (that we don't understand), changes in the Earth's magnetic field (which we don't understand) or the climate change effects of the Earth's "wobble" changing (again something we know is happening but don't understand). Or a combination of the things we don't understand.

Its common sense to embrace reducing pollution and trying to be more energy efficient. Common sense. But we need to state the simple fact that we truly don't understand our climate (or 95% of the universe we live in for that matter). The science is not settled - on either side of the argument.

Rant over. I feel much better.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

So how are those climate change agreements like the Paris Accords working out? Coal was responsible for 38% of the world's power in 2017 - the exact same level as when the first global climate change agreement was signed 20-years ago... Heh Heh... Instead of the vulgar "MILF" the correct linguistic term is matronolagnia. The power of words!... Pumpsie Green Day would be a good name for a cover band... Wow - the police used a fake bomb threat in order to install the hidden cameras used in the Robert Kraft massage parlor arrest. No wonder they have been so insistent on Kraft agreeing to a plea deal. Seriously - what's the worse crime; a fake bomb threat or getting a rub and tug?... I knew Kurt Vonnegut was a WW II POW but I either forgot or never knew that he was captured at the Battle of the Bulge (then he survived the bombing of Dresden)... "We all fool ourselves from time to time.. to keep our thoughts and beliefs consistent with hat we have already done or decided." - Robert Cialdini...
