Robert Kraft Not Elected to Hall of Fame

When Bill Belichick was passed over many excused the slight due to voters only being able to vote for three names and some players perhaps being on their last ballots. It was unfair to make them wait it was argued. But now that Robert Kraft has been likewise passed over by the voters - that excuse no longer holds water.

Robert Kraft has been considered for a number of years and will be 86-years old this summer. He's clearly waited and what's worse - to wait or to die waiting? Or perhaps was there something more nefarious at fault?

A price has to be paid for this travesty.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Tucker Carlson Episode 95.

- Dan Wetzel on Robert Kraft should be thanking Bill Belichick, not taking shots behind his back. It should be noted that Belichick has done nothing but take the high road in this drama and his stature has only grown because of it. Kraft meanwhile...

- Sadly this could be true

- Marc Andreessen on Google Gemini on AI, Google's "Don't Be Evil" went out the window a long time ago.

2023 Football Hall of Fame Class

The Football Hall of Fame released its list of first time eligible players for the 2023 Hall of Fame class.

A max of 5 players can be elected and from the newcomers I would vote for Darrelle Revis, James Harrison, and Joe Thomas. From the returning players I'd support Zach Thomas (he was Brian Urlacher without the hype) and Clay Matthews (who like Thomas was wrongly overshadowed by more hyped but not more productive players).

For contributors I really hope Robert Kraft finally gets his due and gets elected. He's not getting any younger and it's a crime that Jerry Jones was inducted before Robert Kraft.

The big problem with the Hall election process is the use of an advocate to plead the player's case. Get a bad advocate and miss induction. It's a very flawed process.

The Dynasty by Jeff Benedict

Just finished The Dynasty by Jeff Benedict and I recommend the book to any Pats or NFL fans out there.

The book is the retelling of the New England Patriots dynasty over the past 20-years and 6 Super Bowl victories. It focuses on Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady and how they worked in concert to make the Pats the top dynasty in NFL history. And also how that triumvirate finally fell apart.

Much of the tale is already known by any New England fan who was paying attention over the past 20-years but other information was new or untold. I found the background on how Robert Kraft came to own the team in the first place especially enlightening.

One thing did bother me. Jeff Benedict did seem to go out of his way not to name shitbird John Tomase who fabricated a story about the Pats recording the Rams walk-throughs prior to the 2001 Super Bowl. This was Stephen Glass level make-believe that made it into print and unfairly labeled the franchise. The Boston Herald had to do a full page apology over this crap yet even though the episode is discussed in the book - Tomase is never named. It made me question what else Benedict was omitting from the narrative.

As irony would have it I finished the book the same day the heavily favored Patriots lost to the Broncos 18-12. That loss seemed to put a pin on the end of "the Dynasty" just as I was finishing the book of the same name.

Flotsam and Jetsam

 Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

If the NBA playoff TV ratings are way down because of BLM support - I can't imagine how bad the WNBA ratings must be. Are they being measured with microscopes by this point?... The 2007 NFL Draft was horrible for QB's - from JaMarcus Russell taken with the 1st pick to Tyler Thigpen taken with the 217th pick. Total of 11 QB's taken and all of them pretty much busts... Genius Trump nominates Joe Biden to Supreme Court forcing Dems to accuse him of sexual assault... "There's no fucking way we're not buying this team [the Patriots]." - Robert Kraft January 2, 1994. As an aside - how is his nickname not "Krafty?"... The federal government owns approximately 85% of the land in Nevada, 69% of Alaska, 57% of Utah and 53% of Oregon... This seems like a promising technology...

Flotsam and Jetsam

 Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

I believe in spooky action at a distance - as long as that distance is a Planck length (or less)... "Develop into a lifelong self-learner through voracious reading; cultivate curiosity and strive to become a little wiser every day." - Charlie Munger... Who knew? There's a sequel to Wonder Woman scheduled for release in less than a month and a half. Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled for release on October 2nd. I haven't seen one ad or anything for this movie... You may have missed this but the Orchids of Asia case against Robert Kraft has been dismissed by the appeals court. I know Mr. Kraft probably just wants to let this quietly end but part of me wants him to go after the police involved with a massive lawsuit. Not only was this a violation of the Fourth Amendment but the police planted the cameras illegally (using a fake bomb scare) and they smeared his good name saying this was a human trafficking case (no human trafficking charges were ever filed). I support the police but these cops are just creeps who abused their power to get their jollies... Mounting evidence that lockdowns do not work. "The data suggests that lockdowns have not prevented any deaths from COVID-19." I do not know a single person who would be in support of another lockdown...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

President Trump contacted Alex Rodriguez about the Wuhan virus because he wanted to check with A-Rod how the centaur community was handling the crisis. Next the President with check with Beto O'Rourke to check on how the furry community is coping...  Always thought a Lord of the Rings spoof about the "Mood Rings of Power" would be amusing. One mood ring to control them all! It would have the power to make people happy, sad, etc. If you wanted to make it an R rating you could also make the One Ring also have the power to make people horny... I see this and I automatically think "well that's proof they should re-open the golf courses!"... "It is remarkable how much long-term advantage people like us have gotten by trying to be consistently not stupid, instead of trying to be very intelligent." - Charlie Munger... Heh Heh - are we sure this is photoshop?... Remember when ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote, "Robert Kraft is 'not the biggest name' involved in [last year's Orchids of Asia] prostitution bust"? Well Adam we're still waiting. Why was Kraft singled out? And people wonder why Patriots fans dislike ESPN... Memento Mori would be a great name for a life insurance company...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

One of my favorite things to do on a Monday is to tell people "Have a good weekend." Their confusion is my happiness and my happiness is greatly enhanced if they reply "You too"... This week will mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day but this week also marks the 77th anniversary of the Battle of Midway. One of the most important battles in US history... Aggravated Groin Injury would be a good name for a band... Got an email promising "Results so good you'll need to new underwear." I assume this was some sort of penis enlargement deal but there's also a chance it could have been something so good that I'd somehow shit my pants. We'll never know because I sent it right into the trash without opening it... The first commercial of the Trump/Pence 2020 campaign. Nothing stands in their way!... When you think of it the phrase "fed up" makes little sense. "I'm fed up with this job!" Are you saying you couldn't handle another bite of work? What if it was wafer thin?... Happy birthday to Patriots owner Robert Kraft...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Sorry but I can't help but think that Iron Man would make short work of the Night King and the army of the dead. Maybe half-hour worth of work tops... Heh Heh...  Remember when Adam Schefter wrote "Robert Kraft is 'not the biggest name' involved in prostitution bust"? Well Adam we're all still waiting... "If you don't know what your top three priorities are, you don't have priorities." - Donald Rumsfeld... I too would want this as my reading room... Fact of the day - Alaska is so big that t could fit the state if New Jersey into it 75 times... My guess is that the one thing the people on Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2019 all have in common is that none of them subscribe to or read Time Magazine...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Tiger wins the Masters! (And just like that millions of middle-aged white guys forget all about Colin Kaepernick.)... Heh Heh... I was at Fenway Park yesterday and the PA systems started playing Survivor's Eye of the Tiger then it was announced that Tiger had won the Masters with the centerfield scoreboard showing highlights. Tiger got a big round of applause from the crowd... Prosecutors in the Orchids of Asia case admit that there will be no charges related to human trafficking because they have no evidence that human trafficking was involved. Yet the sheriff's department went out of their way to mention potential human trafficking when allegations against Robert Kraft were made public. I hope there's a huge lawsuit coming out of this... Does this cut too close to the truth to be funny?... Today is Patriots Day in Massachusetts which is supposed to commemorate the Battle of Lexington and Concord. Yet that battle happened on April 19th. Today for most people is "Marathon Monday" with the running of the Boston Marathon and a special 11:00 am start for the Red Sox at Fenway. The true Patriots Day should be April 16th each year because that date celebrates both Bill Belichick's birthday and also the anniversary of drafting Tom Brady with the 199th pick of the 2000 NFL Draft....

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

So how are those climate change agreements like the Paris Accords working out? Coal was responsible for 38% of the world's power in 2017 - the exact same level as when the first global climate change agreement was signed 20-years ago... Heh Heh... Instead of the vulgar "MILF" the correct linguistic term is matronolagnia. The power of words!... Pumpsie Green Day would be a good name for a cover band... Wow - the police used a fake bomb threat in order to install the hidden cameras used in the Robert Kraft massage parlor arrest. No wonder they have been so insistent on Kraft agreeing to a plea deal. Seriously - what's the worse crime; a fake bomb threat or getting a rub and tug?... I knew Kurt Vonnegut was a WW II POW but I either forgot or never knew that he was captured at the Battle of the Bulge (then he survived the bombing of Dresden)... "We all fool ourselves from time to time.. to keep our thoughts and beliefs consistent with hat we have already done or decided." - Robert Cialdini...

Rob Gronkowski - An Appreciation

Rob Gronkowski has decided to retire. He was the best tight end in NFL history and he will be greatly missed. Gronk's decision to retire was not unexpected by Pats fans - in fact an announcement that he was coming back for one more year would have actually been the bigger surprise.

Gronk's playoff stat line alone is insane! He played 16 total playoff games (the equivalent of a full NFL regular season) and he caught 81 passed for a total of 1,163 yards and 12 TD's. No TE is ever going to approach his numbers in the playoffs. Pats fans always knew that if the team went into a playoff game with a healthy Gronk then there was a very good chance of victory. And winning playoff games is what its all about in New England.

Pats fans know the abuse Gronk's body has absorbed over the years. Nobody took bigger shots or had his legs targeted like Gronk. Some have some faint hope that this isn't truly the end though. We remember All-World tight end Russ Francis "retiring" after the 1980 season only to come back to play several more seasons (but for another team). I don't think that's in store for Gronk though because he has two things Francis never had - championship rings and close to $60 million in career earnings. People with those things in hand don't need to return to prove anything.

Gronk will be remembered both as the greatest TE to ever play the game but also as a great person. The amount of charity work Gronk quietly did over the years (especially for children) would be almost impossible to properly document.

The playful teammate will also be greatly missed. My guess is you'll see many "Gronk spikes" after TD's next season in tribute. I for one can't wait to see what outfit he picks out for this year's Kentucky Derby.

Robert Kraft's and Bill Belichick statements on Gronk's decision to retire

Tom E. Curran has a nice appreciation of Gronk's decision to retire.

The Boston Herald's Kevin Duffy has a nice appreciation of Gronk's decision to retire

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Something fishy seems to be going on in the case against Robert Kraft. From the outside it seems prosecutors are really pushing for him to take a plea deal and publicly threatening to release video of him of he does not. You have to wonder if the prosecutors are trying to force a plea deal because they know their "evidence" may not be admissible. Supposedly the video in question has not been shared with Kraft's attorneys. Seems fishy to me... Yesterday was the anniversary of the scariest thing I've ever seen in sports... I double dog dare any reporter to ask Bill Belichick at his next press conference if he's ever been to an Asian spa... Very cool... Does Florida have a "revenge porn" law? If the video of Kraft is released and Kraft is not found guilty of any charges I really hope his legal team goes after the Sheriff under that law (and any other way they can)... So Bloomberg is going to be banned from Twitter for this Tweet - right? Or are there two sets of rules?... Mr. Clean and the Ammonia Mafia would be a good name for a band...
