Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.
- Mike Lombardi on what Bill Belichick and Nick Saban share in common.
- The state of the British Royal Navy.
- VDH on Lawfare against Trump is running out of gas. He's right - this has been the most transparent and inept political hitjob I can remember. And the timing was the most inept thing about it!
- Interesting: Here's how much 20 common appliances add to your electric bill each month.
Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.
- The Financial Times on the US wanting the run the AI show. Can't help but wonder if these are the same countries described that also signed the Paris Accords on climate change.
- Profile of Doug Kerzirian and his new site Only Players. I like Doug.
- Mike Lombardi and the 5-hour rule. Good advice.
The book is pretty straight forward look at look at some of the history of the NFL and what makes someone great whether they be coach, broadcaster, or player plus some history of football trades and the Draft. Lombardi compiles his list of the football TV giants, the 10 best coaches, and the 100 best plyers of All-Time.
As Steve Jobs said, "You can't connect the dots looking forward, you must connect them looking backwards." Lombardi connects the NFL dots and I heartily recommend the book.
Here's the books I'm currently reading:
Just finishing up Michael Lombardi's latest book Football Done Right. Will probably do a Substack post on this book soon but I highly recommend it. Perhaps the best book on the NFL I've read. Liking it so much because I'm also reading it in Lombardi's voice.
Reading Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson. At the point where PayPal was just sold in the book. So far enjoying it very much.
Re-reading The Russia House by John le Carre. Have read the book and seen the movie in the past but am finding the context of the War in Ukraine gives the book deeper meaning than I appreciated in the past. Am having a hard time picturing Barley as anyone but Sean Connery though.
About halfway through Tim Ferriss's Tools of Titans. The Internet related content may be somewhat outdated but finding great book recommendations and timeless quotes. Still feel a real-world MBA based on just the books of Walter Isaacson and Tim Ferriss would be a big winner.
Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.
- Diamond demand down as much as 40%
- It is clear Mike Lombardi neither likes nor respects Ron Rivera
- Robert Turley on Joe Biden and his aliases. Bigger than Watergate is an understatement at this point.
Some quotes I hope may resonate with you.
"All very successful commanders are prima donnas and must be so treated." - General George Patton
"I can buy anything I want, basically but I can't buy time." - Warren Buffett
"I just want a normal person as President." - Elon Musk
"Those we lead must be taught how to behave like champions. It's a cultivated and developed habit that's not natural or instinctive for most." - Mike Lombardi
Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.
- Mike Lombardi really isn't a fan of how the 76ers built their team.
- John Collison on Stripe's crypto strategy.
- Interesting - why Kentucky Derby favorite Forte was scratched just before the race and why he's not running in the Preakness. It wasn't because of a failed drug test.
- Always amusing when satire - becomes reality. Or was it vice versa?
Mike Lombardi uses Kyler Murray's new contract to explain why bad incentives don't work. For me the incentives in Kyler Murray's $230 million contract make one think he's either lazy or stupid. Wonder who'd want a guy like that as a spokesman?
Anyway - Lombardi list his three issues and gives explanations. Good quick read.
Mike Lombardi on how if we went through life asking this one simple question, we would improve our decision-making. He uses The Godfather and Bill Belichick drafting Cole Strange as his examples.
For the record - Charlie Bluhdorn didn't sell the rights to The Godfather and Belichick drafting Cole Strange immediately made me think of Belichick drafting Logan Mankins in 2005. The Godfather is considered by some the greatest movie ever made and Logan Mankins is up for election in the Patriots Hall of Fame this year.

- And this is without inflation (HT American Digest)
- Glenn Greenwald: Valid questions about the FBI's involvement in 1/6 exist. Why aren't they being answered? Not a conspiracy theorist but Occam's Razor says that the FBI was involved.
- This is scary! US nuclear weapon bunker security secrets spill from online flashcards since 2013. (HT Borepatch)
- Mike Lombardi: The Plight of "The Process." I actually feel bad for 76er fans.
Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.
- Heh Heh - we're talking about practice!
- This made me chuckle. (HT Meanderthal)

- "Notes" of an Elder. Excellent life advice and some important question worth examining.
