Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Which US states have the most tress per population? Was surprised by New Mexico.

- Cool.

- Kevin Kelly: Robot Basketball. Not sure if I'd watch robot basketball but robot football as the Jetsons prophesied that's completely different.

- The Brennan case keeps growing. Good - put him in jail!

Monday Flotsam and Jetsam

Have a new miscellaneous thoughts and observations post up on Substack.

Admit I confuse Jim and John Harbaugh but wasn't the one who coaches the Chargers supposed to have won and the one who coaches the Giants supposed to have lost yesterday? Not the other way around?

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Jonathan Turley: The dangerous evolution of Gavin Newsom.

- Yep, the singularity has begun. The future is already here, it's just not equally distributed.

- Jalen Hurts - the NFL's most cryptic QB.

- Restraint has no price. The problem of using other people's work - but whatever happened to sanding on the shoulder of giants?

College Football Thoughts

Some observations after the week two games. Now we get to see what happens at the top of the polls with Texas and Ohio State and who drops more - Oregon or Oklahoma.

Was having these thoughts anyway and figured may as well jot them down and put up on Substack.

Antifragile

"With personal risk, you can easily barbell yourself by removing the chances of ruin in any area. I am personally completely paranoid about certain risks, then really aggressive with others. The rules are: no smoking, no sugar (particularly fructose), no motorcycles, no bicycles in town or more generally outside a traffic free area such as the Sahara desert, no mixing with the Eastern European mafia, and no getting on a plane not flown by a professional pilot (unless there is a co-pilot). Outside of these I can take all manner of professional and personal risks, particularly those in which there is no risk of terminal injury...

So take for now that a barbell strategy with respect to randomness results in achieving antifragility thanks to the mitigation of fragility, the clipping of downside risks of harm - reduced pain from adverse events, while keeping the benefits of potential gains."

You'll have to read the book to understand the barbell strategy. Not bad life advice.

Sunday Flotsam and Jetsam

Have a new miscellaneous thoughts and observations post up on Substack.

Somewhere there's someone who developed an AI agent to pick football games to bet on but after huge favorites Oregon and Oklahoma lost yesterday - they are rethinking using the agent for today's NFL action. You know this is true.

Power of Compounding

- Jordan Peterson on Charlie Kirk.

- What's really important of Apple's new technology. The dawn of personal AI.

- Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear dog collars.

The Power of a Positive Mindset

Why Does E=MC2?

"If we could build a spaceship that could whisk us into space at speeds very close to light speed, then the distances to the stars would shrink, and the amount of shrinking would increase the closer to light speed we could travel. If we managed to travel at 9.99999999 percent of the light speed, then we could travel out out of the Milky Way and all the way to the neighboring Andromeda galaxy , almost 3-million light years away, in a mere fifty years." - Why Does E=MC2? by Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw

Very cool but the people on board that ship would still have aged the equivalent of 3 millions years wouldn't they?

Some Memes You May Enjoy

Many a truth is said in jest.

- I'm listening.

- I could do that.

- Admit I laughed.

- This is genius!

Saturday Flotsam and Jetsam

Today's college football action is highlighted by the Ohio State vs Texas matchup tonight. But don't sleep on either the Alabama vs Kentucky or Oklahoma vs Michigan games. Both could be filled with action and drama. College football - it just means more.
