Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.
- DOJ files misconduct charges against anti-Trump Judge Boasberg. If I were a lawyer with a case I feel may lose in Boasberg's court or did lose I'd be filing immediate pleas to dismiss because of bias. If he is found guilty of the DOJ charges then you have a much better footing as well.
- Michael Wade: The weird dream we share. Confession I've never had this dream but know how common it is.
- Dark energy is unnecessary. First I lost faith in string theory and now I'm really losing faith in dark matter and dark energy. What if dark matter and dark energy is just the past? What if time is the missing dimension?
- How Bob Woodward could have saved The Washington Post from Russiagate humiliation.
Dark energy seems to be mostly an artifact of the way the data is adjusted. When you remove the "corrections", the accelerated expansion disappears. (Sort of like how AGW is all in the data manipulation.)
ReplyDeleteNot to mention the established fact that the rate of expansion seems to change up and down several times according to the current (adjusted) data. Which is, shall we say, somewhat difficult to model coherently.
Readily admit that you have a much better understanding of physics than me and I agree that dark energy seems to be a placeholder (like Einstein's cosmological constant) but I can't share the gut feeling that time is the missing dimension. Everything seems to lose a bit of matter or energy over time and people agree that time exists but never seem to include it in the calculations.
ReplyDeleteI also believe in the pilot wave theory even though I have no evidence to back up that belief.
I missed a class for two weeks in college in the summer semester in real life. Just completely forgot about it. I dropped it, of course. I did pass a class in relativity after missing a lot of it when I asked the professor if it was possible to pass it. He agreed to let me pass if I passed the final. I had to borrow someone else's notes and pull an all nighter, but I passed.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in college you took your finals based upon your course numbers. The higher numbers had to give you a pre-arranged make up date. Well this one professor with a high numbered class gave me the makeup date as the day everyone was scheduled to leave for Christmas break - just to be a dick and because he didn't want to hang around. So I said screw it and tried to do 3 finals in the same day. I stayed up all night studying but literally fell asleep during my last final which was macroeconomics. The teacher was very understanding and said I could do a make-up oral exam when I got back from break. Ended up with a B. She really gave me a break but my friend was pissed because he too got a B and he knew the material much better than I did.
