Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

If South Korea has reported a large jump in coronavirus cases can you imagine the number of people who have died of the disease in North Korea without any being reported? Remember that China is North Korea's largest (by far) trade partner and the two countries share a border... "There is nothing more horrifying than stupidity in action." - Adlai Stevenson... I laughed too hard at this... To make things easier I propose that any hit song from the 70's that vaguely sounds like a white guy is singing and where you can't 100% identify who the artist is to be automatically credited to Dan Fogelberg. Same rule applies to female singers but with those songs being credited to Crystal Gayle... If you factor in holidays and weekends then President Obama basically averaged one Presidential pardon/ commutation for every day he was in the Oval Office. Meanwhile President Trump has had just 26 such pardons / commutations... I was going to do a post on The Seven Deadly Sins of Iron Man but decided against it. Mainly because of the the ending to Avengers Endgame...

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- China's supply chain logistics is being rocked by the coronavirus. Unfortunately I can attest first hand that this is true.

- Quality and Effort

- Worthwhile profile of author Jack London. Pretty gritty look at the author and his life but surprisingly it left out how racist London was (though that could be chalked up to London being a product of his time).

- I'll just say that this is a cooler way to travel than by Segway

- Interesting insight into perhaps Donald Trumps strongest asset

- Fantastic thread! 40 powerful concepts in 40 Tweets

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Steven Pressfield "Our Michael Moment"

- All future satellites should be required to have this tether technology. And any company with decommissioned satellites should be required to attach this technology to their old satellites before new satellites can be launched.

- Heh Heh

- Interesting long read on Saudi Arabia's potential involvement in 9/11. (Although keep in mind that most of the information is via investigators working for families who are suing the Saudis.)

- Heh Heh - Scholars now believe Jesus spent time with prostitutes, tax collectors just to avoid hanging out with loathsome journalists

- Understanding the R0 number and what it means for the spread of outbreaks like coronavirus.

- Rolls-Royce plans to build up to 15 mini nuclear reactors in Britain. In a decade or so will Rolls-Royce be known as more of a power company than a car company? Also interesting nugget in story is that China has more nuclear plants planned that all the Western world combined. That could greatly impact their carbon footprint.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

I bet Joe Rogan gets at least a good five minutes of material for his next stand-up special from the ridiculous "controversy" of him "endorsing" Bernie Sanders. Can't wait I'm sure it will be great stuff... Put me in the camp that thinks the coronavirus flu should be know as Xi's Disease going forward. Not the Kung Flu... Something tells me there's no way the movie Silver Streak could get made today. As great as Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor were together this scene just does not get made today... It is truly amazing that Bill Belichick has now been the coach of the New England Patriots for 20-years. What he's accomplished in that time is otherworldly... "We suffer from knowing the numbers." A quote from Sam Zell heard in his recent Tim Ferriss podcast. The quote in context really resonated with me... I'm on the waiting list for one of these bad boys...  Haven't watched a single minute of the Impeachment hearings and I'm a better person for it...
