Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- An interesting look at Lynyrd Skynyrd's Sweet Home Alabama and the song's meaning.

- Just when you thought that Facebook couldn't get any scummier. I'm not on Facebook but I'm sure these maggots have my data too. If you're still on Facebook take a long look in the mirror an ask yourself why.

- The unusual books that shaped billionaires, mega best-selling authors, and other prodigies. So many books - so little time.

- And while we are talking about books - here's Shane Parrish's recommended reading list for 2018. I'm getting fearful of getting a complex related to the knowledge that there's so many great books out there that I haven't read or even heard of!

- And once again speaking of books - a day long trip to the Last Bookstore in LA is now on my bucket list

- Interesting opinion - why Vladimir Putin is a terrible strategist

- This is such a great story. Syracuse should be proud of getting such a high caliber recruit.

The New National Anthem - Free Bird

If I were in Congress every April 1st I would propose a law changing the National Anthem to Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird. I think that would be great. I bet you would get a lot of Congressional support for the law from the South too.

How great would it be if the law went into effect prior to the next Olympic Games? Imagine other countries having to sit through 9 minutes of Southern Rock each time a US Olympian medaled - or would that be metaled? Imagine proud US citizens playing air guitar while the world watched - each citizen putting their own stamp on the guitar anthem. It would be awesome.

Already the words "Free Bird" are a joke/insult to most musicians or bands - how ironic would it be if they all had to actually learn to play the song? Play Free Bird would take on a whole new meaning and level of hostility from bands who would never know if you were messing with them or being patriotic.

Too bad I'm not in Congress.

New English National Anthem

England is thinking about adopting a new national anthem to replace God Save the Queen to be played before sporting events and also I would assume during medal presentations. I really like the idea of England adopting David Bowie's Heroes as their new anthem. The lyrics actually work pretty well for sporting events.

Let me also repeat my belief that American should adopt Free Bird as our new national anthem.

RIP Leonard Skinner

I know this is yesterday's news - RIP Leonard Skinner.

But posting that gives me the excuse to post this. I know it is wrong but I can't help laughing at that video. I can't even make it half way through without stopping because it makes me laugh so hard.

Morning Music

Some morning music for your listening enjoyment.

- Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man. With lyrics in Spanish or Portuguese (I don't know which).

- Jim Carroll Band - People who Died. Is it bad that I'm surprised that Jim Carroll is still alive?

- The Godfathers - Birth, School, Work Death. A blast from the 80's.

- Echo and the Bunnymen - Killing Moon. I love Echo and the Bunnymen's 1984 album Ocean Rain.

- Def Leppard - Foolin. In honor of today being April's Fool day.
