Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Victor Davis Hanson on the strange case of the Cuomo brothers. I could see the DNC trying to shoehorn Andrew Cuomo into the top spot (elbowing Biden out of the way) oblivious to the fact that Democrats across the country loudly dismissed other NYC options like Mike Bloomberg and Bill de Blasio. Making Cuomo the VP would be even worse... Dan Wetzel makes the case that being able to hear Conor McGregor's trash talk in an empty arena during a fight would be must see TV. I agree. And McGregor/Diaz 3 is getting my money no matter where it is fought... Sure technically Eli Manning "retired" in January but as far as I'm concerned until another regular season game is played Manning is still the "active" NFL leader in interceptions thrown... Matt Taibbi on how Covid-19 the Wuhan Virus bailout gave Wall Street a no-lose casino... I think Goodyear and Ameriquest have missed a big marketing opportunity by not having their blimps traveling around the country. With nothing else to do people would have come out and stared at those blimps for hours. Huge missed marketing opportunity... "Blue states are about to get hit twice - massive budget deficits just as remote work makes the tax base more mobile than ever." - Naval Ravikant. Excellent point. There's no tax revenue coming in from all those businesses that were closed down. Meanwhile no State government employees or programs have had any cost or personnel reductions. Work from home employees will flee States with high taxes (Blue States) for those that don't (Red States)...

Airship Advertising

This article argues that airships may be poised to make a comeback. The main reason they suggest a resurgence is cargo transport which could have a much lower environmental impact than traditional cargo ships (as an aside - why not nuclear powered cargo ships?).

Last time I thought about airships was 2-years ago when the Airlander 10 - aka the Flying Bum - crashed.

I used to think about airships alot because I thought they represented a great potential advertising business. I mean everyone stops to look at the Goodyear blimp right? Why not sell the space on the sides of the airship as billboards in the sky? Just fly the ship up and down the Mass Pike during rush hours and let the money roll in.

You could also sell rides and maybe a nice brunch or early dinner.

If you want to take this idea and run with it - aloha (just kick me back a piece).

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Canada needs to fight back against unfair Chinese trade practices. China knows it can bully Canada but if Trudeau is ousted as PM due to the Quebec scandal and is replaced by a Conservative then China will either feel the pain economically of new Canadian tariffs or it will resolve it's trade war with the US hoping Canada will fall in line.

- I might be in the minority but this looks pretty cool to me. Granted I have a thing for blimps and I do not think this would work in congested city environments.

- Nassim Taleb: a definition of Antifragile and its implications.

- The 25 most popular Ted Talks. I think I've only seen 3.
