Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.
- The death of partying in the US and why it matters.
- Parkinson's link to gut bacteria hints at unexpected, simple treatment. (HT Instapundit)
- Gina Carano, Disney settle suit over Mandalorian firing. Good for her.
- Movie Ushers, Gas Station Attendants, and Other Jobs that Went Away. I still have trash truck guys - I know because I tip them every Christmas.
Ushers, etc.: Author is maybe not old enough to remember TVs had vertical and horizontal hold controls that went out, particularly horizontal, so a TV repairmen had to be called. Tuners were mechanical turrets whose contacts wore or tarnished. TVs were furniture, so carrying one to a repair shop was not a simple thing to do. Like doctors' house calls, those of TV repairmen are pretty much gone, too.
ReplyDeleteThe was a TV repair shop not far from my house growing up. The picture tubes were always going out too.
