Flotsam and Jetsam
Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.
One of the main reasons Joe Biden and the Democrats want to get rid of the Trump Tax Cuts is because the changes to the tax code included getting rid of the deduction for State taxes. This change hurt many Blue States like New York. And it made people more aware of just how high the taxes were in those states... ESPN may be looking at hundreds of layoffs in near future... Prediction - next year may become known as the Year of Small Government. Most states have seen their tax revenue cut by about 30% because of the pandemic and the closing of businesses. Unless there's a massive bailout from the Federal government states are going to lay off workers and cut services that are non-essential. Shrinking the size of state government is not necessarily a bad thing... The story behind Pink Floyd's Have a Cigar... At the local level one of the first things to be cut, or to be threatened to be cut, will be school sports. This will be less likely in states that reopened faster like Florida, Georgia and Texas. And more likely in states with tyrannical lockdow rules like New York, California, Michigan and Massachusetts. Look for SOS (Save our Sports) signs and bake sales to become the norm in those states..

Great Gig in the Sky - Pink Floyd
Just wanted to mention how great Clare Torry's vocals are on this song.

- As an Irish-American this story is very disturbing and makes me want to avoid any future purchases of Hasbro products.

Flotsam and Jetsam
With Halloween soon upon us remember, "With Great Pumpkin comes great responsibility" - Linus... Roger Water's blatant antisemitism is making it hard for me to enjoy Pink Floyd songs anymore... Good for Kevin Youkilis - parent of the week. Not even a mention of uncle Tom Brady... There should be a word for when you write an email at work and are so proud of it you read it over and over again after it is sent... This is why Patriots players always seem more prepared when it comes to knowing the rule-book... Every time I find a fruit fly dead in the head of my beer at a bar I think, "That's the way he wanted to die"... This was the best thing to come out of Sean Rodriguez punching out the Gatorade bucket last night... Oh and if you're not familiar with Sean Rodriguez - you're not alone but then again what's to know about a 30-year old journeyman with a career .228 batting average?... Tom Petty was a heroin addict? Looking forward to this biography and I agree that Petty doesn't get his due in the rock and roll pantheon... Always remember that the word "listen" contains the same letters as the word "silent". To truly listen you should be silent... These Budweiser Red Lights look really cool. I might get one for the Bruins...

Don't know why but I've been thinking of this video for about a week. Cool stuff.

Flotsam and Jetsam
I'm not impressed by the Red Sox so-called 794 game "sell-out" streak which ended last night. What is impressive is Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon being on Billboard's top album list for 741 consecutive weeks... Beaver bites man to death. Thank God this wasn't - you know - a euphemism... I disagree with the underlying sentiments but I have to admit I have new respect for Russell Brand's writing ability. His article on the death of Margaret Thatcher was strangely mesmerizing... Dwight Evans has 331 more career hits and almost 300 more HR for the Red Sox than Wade Boggs but you never hear Dewey whining about him getting his number retired... I can't bypass the movie Goon without stopping to watch. Goon, Slapshot and Casablanca... Happy 41st birthday to former Red Sox captain Jason Varitek. My guess is even the most die-hard Yankee fans smile at this photo given the past couple of years...

Flotsam and Jetsam
Just saying but on day when Tom O'Brien leads NC State to a huge upset over Florida State - Boston College loses to Army. BC should have paid the man when they had the chance... The Princess Bride cast reunites for 25th year anniversary of movie's release... I know Notre Dame won big against Miami but I still hope they drop in the polls just as retribution for those awful helmets they wore last night... I love Terry Francona and him taking Indians job shows he'd rather be Teddy Roosevelt's "man in the arena" than a critic on the sidelines at ESPN. Good for him!... It will be very interesting to follow this story. Phil Ivey wins 7.3 million British pounds over 2-nights but casino is refusing to pay... Pop-tarts are a gateway food to diabetes... History nuggets: When Admiral Dewey destroyed the Spanish fleet in Manilla in 1898 - he only lost 1 US sailor. To heat-stroke... Apple was just 90-days away from bankruptcy when Steve Jobs returned to company he helped found. When you think of it that way - the story of what Jobs did with Apple is even more incredible... Terry Francona returns to Fenway Park as the manager of the Indians on May 23rd... Remember Halloween shoppers - Elmo died for your sins... People claim that Barack Obama is not bipartisan but I think him creating jobs only in states with Republican governors disproves that... Always wondered if Pink Floyd song One of These Days was influenced by the theme to Dr. Who or vice versa... I wonder if Curt Schilling is going to try to replace Mark Grace as TV analyst on Diamondbacks games. I'm guessing Schilling could use the money and he was a World Series hero for Arizona... Seriously - do Democrats think David Axelrod is helpful? I can't see him convincing undecided voters of anything except possibly the fact that Axelrod looks like an unsuccessful child molester...

Roger Waters - Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking
No idea why I thought of this song today but the song made me think two things 1 - this was actually the high-point of Roger Waters solo career (which makes it understandable why he just does Pink Floyd stuff now) and 2 - how many people born in 1984 or after even know what hitchhiking is?
