Remembering Gettysburg

"We the living" should remember the importance of the Battle of Gettysburg and be thankful for the outcome.

This is an essay I wrote a couple of years ago. Posting it on Substack in hopes of reaching a larger audience. This time of year is also a reminder to me to re-read Michael Shaara's The Killer Angels. My personal way of remembering and being grateful.

  1. Every American should visit Gettysburg to see the site and scale of the battle. The new visitors center is well done, heck, the old electric map that was used for years was pretty good as well.
    It is truly hallowed ground.

  3. Growing up in Philadelphia, I've been to the Gettysburg battlefield maybe ten time. Always worth it. If you want to clean up your bucket list, set a date in the future and I'll meet you there. S

When you get to Gettysburg, Antietam is only a couple of hours away.
