I usually run away from ‘Life Advice’ articles as a waste of time. But if curated by Large Reg, what the heck… and it’s good stuff. My only comment is about tribalism, which can ‘make the world smaller and meaner’ but might also be how one survives. Food for thought….
I don't believe that one single iota of our military planning and execution for war has changed since the fall of Afghanistan and the catastrophe going on in Ukraine. The generals are still 200% committed to fighting their last war on the same exact terms they fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. The people responsible for that needed to go to our version of Devil's Island for a good long time.
I agree with that too. However I hope that Pete Hesgeth is trying to change that. Think we need to be more drone oriented and if we are to go to war we need clear objectives and an exit strategy. Out rules for engagement should simply be find the enemy and kill them.
We need to stop planning for and the fight the last war instead of the war at hand,

I couldn't agree more with the observation that you become the sum total of your five closest friends. Those are your tribe. Choose them wisely.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words.
