Smartphone Disrespect

Excellent advice. I know I'm often guilty of Smartphone Disrespect - sometimes doubly (because I have two phones). I will endeavor to do better!

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Using nuclear power to directly eliminate the root cause of global warming. Interesting, technical, long-read but the proposal means a 1 GW reactor could remove 3,790 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere PER DAY

- This gave me chills - people's beautiful expressions at hearing sound for the first time

- Interesting - the world first rooftop 360-degree infinity pool

- How to donate your body to science

- An app for iPhones can automatically start to record if you get pulled over by the police

- One stat where I want to strive to be below average

- Interesting map showing the most famous person born in different parts of the US. Worcester's most famous resident is listed as H. Jon Benjamin (Archer) - I would have guessed Dennis Leary (though historically it should have been Robert Goddard)

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- NATO turns 70-years old this week. Austin Bay has a nice summary of what NATO means today. He doesn't mention Turkey and I'm not sure if Turkey still belongs in NATO

- China's economy is hurting and a trade deal with the US can't come soon enough. Keep in mind that an agreement for North Korea to give up their nukes will probably be part of such a deal.

- Israel becomes just the 7th nation to orbit the moon. The Beresheet spacecraft is not only in orbit but on April 11th it will attempt to land on the moon which would make it the first privately funded craft to do so. Only the US, Russia and China have landed a craft on the surface of the moon before.

- America F*ck Yeah!

- The miracle that is the smartphone

- So basically agreeing to do one of those ancestry DNA tests is the same as agreeing to giving your DNA to the FBI

- Janties? WTF

Apple vs the FBI

This is amusing. The FBI wanting backdoor access to people's phones is not.

When it comes to encryption - I agree with John Ashcroft 100%. That was written in 1998 - so don't give me the "war on Terror" argument either. The government should not have "keys" to your phone any more than the government should have keys to your home.

It's really that simple.
