Miscellaneous Thoughts

Miscellaneous thoughts this morning while I have my first cup of coffee and read the morning papers...

Yesterday there was an article on how Ellis Burks wants to be a manager when his playing days are over. This made me wonder if one of the reasons Burks picked Boston this off-season wasn't just because the Red Sox have a good chance to win the World Series but also to erase the one negative impression he has has made during his career (that Boston is a racist city) an impression that may have hurt him during the interview process... I will be making myself available to the NBA draft... In his recent ESPN.com column - Peter Gammons offers this gem, "Curt Schilling's 164 career wins are two less than John Burkett, a reflection on the fact that Burkett had a better career than many realize." To me this is like Gammons pointing out that Mike Greenwell was a better outfielder than most people realize and using as proof the fact that he finished 2nd in the MVP voting to Jose Canseco in 1988... If Mel Gibson re-releases The Passion of the Christ next year during Holy Week - the movie will again be the #1 box-office draw.... Just wanted to mention this - the other night after the Bruins won in overtime and maybe because the way they won - I couldn't fall sleep for hours.... Speaking of the Bruins - if I ran the Jumbotron at the Fleet Center I would run the highlight of Alexei Kovalev grabing his wrist from the other night paired with Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack when he claims, "Ohh...my arm! It's broken" after getting hit with a golf ball. I would run those two clips together on an endless loop... I kinda hate myself for pointing this out but of all the potential Red Sox free agents - the one that would have most easily been replaced was Trot Nixon (lots of corner outfielders available) and yet Trot was the only one they got signed to a deal. Please note that I haven't taken down my "In Theo We Trust" sign - I just had to make the observation... I'm surprised that Brian Daubach made it through waivers...
