Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- Tucker Carlson Episode 99 on Ukraine

-  College sports leaders in talks to settle anti-trust NIL lawsuit. Sounds like the people who actually have to pay the bill are sick of the NCAA always losing in court.

- Ncuti Gatwato to be new Doctor Who. Surprised the show is still on the air. Haven't watched in years.

- The Nostalgia Machine. Songs from any year you chose.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

I love everything about the recently completed Crew Dragon mission which finally brought the launch of US astronauts from US soil back to a being a reality. But perhaps my favorite bit of trivia was that the toilet on the Crew Dragon is called the "Commode O Dragon"... "Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants." - Epictetus... I would love to watch a show or listen to a podcast where a Dalek (from Doctor Who) asks scientists and writers questions in his Dalek voice... When your party bases everything on identity politics should you be surprised when the chickens come home to roost?... "The more sweat on the training field, the less blood on the battlefield." - Col. David Hackworth... "Stupid people are ruining America." - Herman Cain (rest in peace)...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

How ironic would it be if Jeffrey Epstein was actually murdered by Harry Reid because Epstein had proof that Reid really was a pedophile... I would love to watch a show or listen to a podcast where a Dalek (from Doctor Who) asks scientists and writers questions in his Dalek voice. That would be awesome!... Old time baseball... The name Manhattan started out as Manahatchtaniek which is Lenape Indian for "the island where we all became intoxicated" after the Indians were made totally drunk by the Dutch... And speaking of Manhattan - can someone remind me what the point or goals of the Occupy Movement were? Seriously - what was the f*cking point?... If you watch porn backwards - it tells the story of a woman who gives her man sex so he will clean the pool, hook up the cable or deliver some pizzas...  Laws for the Navigation of Life. These are phenomenal. Peter Josef Safar was a remarkable man... I'm surprised nobody has come out with a Tickle-Me Michael Jackson Doll. That would be one of the great gag gifts of all-time...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Saying that the Hubble telescope has a new rival is incorrect. I would prefer them to say that Earth based telescope technology has taken the next step forward... Wrap your mind around this - 95% of the taxes we have today in the US did not exist 100-years ago. How many of those taxes were enacted for a specific purpose that may no longer exist but the taxes still do?... This remains one of my favorite paintings and yes I am going to hell... Prohibited means not allowed but you never hear anyone say that things that are allowed are "hibited". Not sure if "hibited" is even a word. I'll be very gruntled if it is... 12-mile wide "lake" found on Mars. Very cool and could serve as a future base of operations of  a manned base on the planet but I can help but keep thinking of the Doctor Who episode The Waters of Mars...  "What can be added to the happiness of the man who is in health, who is out of debt, and has a clear conscience." Sage words of wisdom from Adam Smith... About time! Deadwood movie finally greenlit by HBO...

Top 5 - Things That are (Much) Bigger on the Inside

Finally saw Fantastic Beasts over the weekend and I enjoyed it very much. The movie made me think of this list.

1. The Tardis from Doctor Who (you knew this would be number one)

2. Newt Scamander's suitcase

3. Oscar the Grouch's trashcan

4. Barty Crouch Jr's trunk (where he imprisoned Mad Eye Moody)

5. Madonna's vagina (couldn't resist)

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- If you are a Doctor Who fan - this is pretty cool.

- Godspeed in retirement Abby Wambach

- I know I shouldn't laugh at something like this because sexless Christian marriages are a problem and nothing is funny about the situation to the men (and women) who find themselves in such marriages but.... the part about having sex with your wife like she's Medusa (so you don't have to look at her face) had me laughing out loud.

- Shame on our Republic - A Million Homes Taken Since Kelo

- Very cool move by John Stockton

- The Dougie Hamilton trade is looking better and better for the Bruins

- Agincourt at 600

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of Tom Brady suing the NFL Commissioner for $200 million for defamation and damages. At the very least it would allow Brady to avoid having to speak about "deflategate" as all he'd have to say is "I can't comment because of our legal suit against the league"...  At first I agreed with this thought. Then I remembered all the entertainment I've gotten from watching certain individuals struggle with the self-checkout lane... So not only are the Jets, Colts and Ravens at the forefront of faux outrage over "deflategate" they are also among 14 NFL teams who got paid to support the troops. What's worse - fake outrage or fake patriotism? Not listed among the 14 teams - the New England Patriots... Today's word for the day is "holoholo" which is Hawaiian for "to ramble for pleasure"... Definitely buying this as a gift for someone in my family...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Given Curt Schilling's views on evolution - I wonder if he thinks it was God's will his video game company went bankrupt too... There's Farmer's Markets where farmers sell their produce. Why not Hunter's Markets where hunters can sell their excess game meat like venison?... I've long said that JFK would not be welcome in today's Democrat Party... Happy 74th birthday to Red Sox favorite Luis Tiant. If Catfish Hunter is in the Hall of Fame then Looie should be too... Some cool homages to Arthur Conan Doyle in Sherlock.. Why do they say "hike" before snapping the ball in football? What are they "hiking"? Seriously this little language nugget is bugging me... Neil Gaiman talks about one of my favorite Doctor Who episodes of all-time... Oversized Load would make a great title for a biography of Peter North...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Jake Peavy just sounds like the name of a baseball player but Peavy Jake sounds like the name of a character from a Guy Ritchie film like Snatch... 8 people who were banned from baseball other than the Black Sox and Pete Rose. I especially like the Ty Cobb story... The name Manhattan started out being called Manahatchtaniek which is Lenape Indian for "the island where we all became intoxicated" after the Indians were made drunk by the white men...  In the future will sex dolls be available via 3-D printing? If so you may want to invest in printing companies. Also could be bad news for dating sites like Match.com if you think about it... Pawtucket Red Sox manager Gary DiSarcina made a great point, "If you said at the beginning of the season, Jose Iglesias for Jake Peavy, everybody takes it"... I would love to watch a show where a Dalek (from Doctor Who) asks scientists and writers questions in his Dalek voice. That would be awesome...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

One of the benefits of being at the track during a NASCAR race is the fact that the noise of the cars is so loud that you can pretty much fart whenever you want and nobody will hear it... Rajon Rondo "I will never play for the Miami Heat"... Would it be ironic if the Patriots pre-draft report said that Aaron Hernandez had a "killer instinct". I wonder if given what happened with Hernadez if the phrase "killer instict" will be dropped from the sports nomenclature... It's James Joyce's Ulysses and Melville's Moby Dick for me...  It would not surprise me at all if Hollywood already had a sequel to SharkNado in the works. How about SharkNado II - The Reckoning... 11 people who almost played Doctor Who. I think Bill Nighy would have been fantastic... Barack Obama seems to be predisposed to only enforcing the laws he agrees with. This seems to make his Administration's enforcing pot laws even more vigorously than George Bush did seem very strange. Especially given his supporters views on legalized marijuana and his own past with the drug... If they can do a sequel to the movie Wall Street after decades. Why not a sequel to the movie The Secret of My Success?... As bad as Chris Berman makes your ears bleed during the HR derby it used to be even worse when he was partnered with Joe Morgan... Cool - fireworks and lightning at the same time...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Michael Douglas says he got throat cancer from cunnilingus - what does science say about that claim?... "Stinktum" should be a word. It sound much better than either "anus" or "sphincter"... Burning Esophagus would be a good name for a band...  Awesome photo... Some people are suggesting Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) as the next Doctor Who but I think the identical twins who played Fred and George would be a better choice. That way you could have the Dr. crossing his own time-line as often as you like without expensive special effects... Interesting look at how the Red Sox got David Ortiz 10-years ago and how he asked to be let go when he wasn't fitting in at first. Getting rid of Shea Hillenbrand and keeping Ortiz will always be one of the most under-rated moves in team history... The World Pastrami Eating Contest was Sunday - here's the trophy. For my money ($5) the best pastrami sandwich in Worcester is at Breen's Cafe... There should have been an episode of Magnum PI where Magnum saw Higgins kill his ex-wife and a waiter but kept silent about it for years... Separated at birth - Alec Baldwin and Millard Fillmore... The word "posh" came from Thomas Cook booking British upper class on cruises with "Port Out - Starboard Home" cabins...

Doctor Who - Season 7

I just finished re-watching Doctor Who's 6th season and I must say that I think that season in whole may be the best of the lot. It took me a while to warm to Matt Smith but damn - season 7 looks great!
