Baseball Flotsam and Jetsam

Doug Mientkiewicz has every right to the ball. The team gets the championship flag and the players get the ball. That's the way it has always been. The only bad guy in this situation is Chinless Shaughnessy who created this controversy just out of spite. I have no idea why players would even speak with him... I still say that the Diamondbacks should sign Jeromy Burnitz to play centerfield... So the Mets sign Miguel Cairo - does that mean that Cairo will be the middle infield utility guy or does that mean that Kaz Matsui could be traded?... The 2009 class of HOF candidates could include; Ellis Burks, Roberto Alomar, Juan Gonzalez, Edgar Martinez, Pat Hentgen, Barry Larkin, Robin Ventura, John Franco, Todd Zeile, and Roger Clemens. I bet the other 9 guys are hoping that Clemens comes back for one more year. There are some pretty solid cases to be made (especially Larkin and Alomar) and some guys who are just woodwork (Zeile). Consider that without Clemens - those 9 guys represent 45 all-star games, 20 Gold Gloves, 3 MVP Awards, 2 HR championships, 1 RBI championship, 2 batting titles, 1 Cy Young Award and 2 Rolaids Relief Awards.
