I don't get it
It's no secret that the New York Mets have been trying (in vain) to rid themselves of Roger Cedeno and his awful $5 million per year contract. It's also no secret that the Mets are pretty stocked at catcher (with Mike Piazza, Vance Wilson and Jason Phillips). So what does the Mets front office do? They trade Cedeno (but agree to pay for $4.5 million of his contract for this year and next) for a back-up catcher (Chris Widger). Now the Mets have four catchers (although two can also play first) but now need a back-up outfielder (they actually need a starter to take Karim Garcia's spot if you ask me). This deal makes no sense.
Of course Milton Bradley is available and he could take Karim Garcia's starting spot (plus be back-up for Mike Cameron in center). Also Paul DePodesta has recently stockpiled young outfielders out in Los Angeles - maybe the rumored (by me) deal that would send Mike Piazza back to LA is in the works (which would explain the need for another back-up catcher).
