Just Sayin'
In 1999 Mo Vaughn took big money to leave Boston as a free agent. His replacement was the low cost Brian Daubach. Now that Mo's forced into retirement - I thought we would take a quick look at what the two players did since 1999:
Mo Vaughn .267 batting average, 98 HR and 312 RBI
Brian Daubach .264 batting average, 90 HR and 319 RBI
Pretty even production but consider that since 1999 Mo Vaughn was paid $60.83 million while Daubach made only $3.685 million. Mo Vaughn will also pocket another $17 million this year ($15 million salary and $2 million buy-out for 2005) on the final year of the deal he signed when he left Boston (the Mets are lucky that insurance will cover most of the money) while Daubach will be back playing for the Red Sox after a year in Chicago. Daubach's salary this year will be well south of $1 million.
