Dan Rather's Replacement

Dan Rather has become an anchor to CBS in more ways than one. His bogus documents report has severly damaged the credibility of CBS News and he has become a liability on the bottom line. This past Friday, only 108,000 people in New York tuned into his broadcast.

For perspective - consider the fact that same night 650,000 people tuned into watch the Yankees / Red Sox game on the YES Network. That's six-times the numbers of the CBS Evening News that same night. Now consider the fact that CBS is available to EVERYONE with a TV while the YES Network has limited reach.

Juxtaposing Dan Rather's numbers against the Yankees game led to a thought.

What CBS needs most is to be trusted again. They need to be liked. In New York arguably the most trusted and liked man among both Democrats and Republicans has to be Yankee manager Joe Torre. Since all Rather really does these days is read the news - why not hire Torre to replace him?

Of course this would never happen because the "journalists" would scream "blasphemy!" (I also have serious doubts that Torre would ever be interested.) However, I don't think you could argue the fact that Joe Torre at the anchor desk would do wonders for the ratings. The numbers for the first week alone would be huge as people tuned in just out of curiosity.

Just a thought.
