Miscellaneous Thoughts

Today marks the debut of Bobby Ross as head coach of the Army Black Knights. West Point opens against Louisville who was the preseason choice to win Conference USA. This will be the last year that Army will be in Conference USA - they go back to being an Independent next year (and hopefully Holy Cross gets back on the schedule)... The Blue Jays plan to bring back last year's Cy Young winner Roy Halladay for a couple of end of season starts - the question is why? Why risk further injury when the season is already in the tank? It doesn't make sense... Manny Ramirez now has 17 career grand slams which ties him with Ted Williams and Jimmy Foxx who were also members of the Red Sox. Lou Gehrig holds the record for grand slams with 23... I am picking Harvard QB Ryan Fitzpatrick as my dark horse candidate for the Heisman this year. Fitzpatrick is the real deal. He has a cannon and can run. Some day he'll be playing on Sundays. If the Crimson can go undefeated - then look for Fitzpatrick to pick up some Gordie Lockbaum like support from the major media (but remember where you read it first)...
