Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing.

- This was cool - Dave Grohl is the best

- This is why the UFC is gaining fans while other sports are shedding them in droves

- LHC creates matter from light

- An example of why Mike Sexton was so important to poker

- The Washington Post used to be upheld as one of the examples of journalism at its best. Now they are an agenda driven bunch of hacks which their treatment of Clay Travis is just the latest example of. They've completely thrown away their integrity and for what?

- Heh Heh

- Is sunscreen bad for you? I've cut way back on my use of sunscreen for many of the reasons raised in the article.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

I've lost track of things - how did that World War III thing with Iran a couple months ago work out?... Cool - Winners of the 2020 Big Picture Natural World photography competition... Social Darwinism? Is that like Social drinking? I only believe in evolution when with friends and then only in moderation... The soundtrack to the movie Grosse Point Blank is one of the best and most underrated in history... And speaking of music the great Dave Grohl on the power of concerts. Going to see live bands is one of the things I miss most. Never been a fan of crowds but if you give me the opportunity to see a band like Foo Fighters at a place like Fenway - I'm there in a heartbeat... Apple looking to move a big chunk of manufacturing out of China and into India. The move supposedly will make Apple India's largest exporter. This is on top of Apple moving some other production to Brazil. But if Foxconn is still its primary contractor is this really decoupling?... And once again speaking of music - what a nice way to start your morning reading about and listening to the song The Highwayman sung by The Highwaymen...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

One potential silver lining to the Wuhan virus is hopefully this crisis will finally convince places to get rid of their air hand dryers in bathrooms for the more hygienic traditional paper towels... Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters postpone their tour with the most Foo Fighters announcement possible... I think the run on toilet paper is clear proof of the Patriarchy. Every grocery store I've been to these past two weeks the toilet paper aisle is decimated meanwhile you go over to the tampon aisle - fully stocked! It's not the women who are panic stocking up on non-perishables... Heh Heh... Out - people stealing towels from hotels. In - people stealing the extra roll of toilet paper in hotel bathrooms... Good advice from C.S. Lewis...

Foo Fighters

Went to see the Foo Fighters last night at Fenway Park. It was agreat concert. They opened up with guitars wailing and the crowd screaming. I took that opportunity to fart. Really just let it loose. Nobody was able to hear it above the noise. So for the first few songs of the night the girls behnd me were fighting my foo.

Dave Grohl from his throne said last night that Queen's performance at Live Aid was the apex of rock. Re-watching it is hard to argue against him.

One of the few cover songs they played last night was AC/DC's Let There Be Rock. You don't hear that song much any more.

Looking at the two live performances videos above - you can really see where the Foo Fighters are coming from.

$25 Rock Band

This $25 to choose a 5-piece rock band meme has been a round for a while but what the heck - here's my $25 band:

Lead Guitar: George Harrison $1 (biggest bargain ever!)
Rhythm Guitar: The Edge $6
Frontman: Roger Daltrey $7
Bassist: Geddie Lee $7
Drums: Dave Grohl $4

Total $25

What would your band look like?

ALS Bucket Challenge

Just this morning I read that David Beckham, Britney Spears and Dave Grohl had all separately and independently "won" the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

Sorry - to me Jacqueline Bisset is still the champ. Photos from her in the movie The Deep  single handedly created the wet t-shirt craze. I know no cause was involved but in my mind Jacqueline is still the champ.

Queens of the Stone Age

Just felt like hearing this tonight. Never noticed Dave Grohl on drums before.
