Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

If you think about it, the exclusion of Gary Johnson from the Presidential Debates in 2016 was one of the first red flags that the elites were tilting the playing field in this country... Robert Plant's (Crazy on a) Ship of Fools easily could be the theme song for politics in 2021. "I built this ship it is my making"... Armed Propaganda would be a good name for a band (or new Political Party)... Boston in 1860... Any truth to the rumor that El Chapo will be sponsoring the entire University of  Miami soccer team in an NIL deal? It could be a great way to launder some cash... The NBA's biggest nightmare has to be a PED that makes you grow taller...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thought and observations.

Can't help but wonder from time to time how things in this country would be different if a Gary Johnson won the Presidential Election in 2016 or a Tulsi Gabbard in 2020... Cancelled Media would be a good name for a place for "cancelled" members of the media (say a Bari Weiss) could ply their trade and people could go to show support for the "cancelled." Kind of have that already in Substack but I like the name Cancelled Media better... Who knew? A number of people die every year in the US from getting tangled in their bedclothes - a fairly significant number at that... Irish drinking toast - It is better to spend money like there is no tomorrow than to spend tonight like there's no money... Joe Biden's been in office for 54 days now and "the walls are closing in" from today's "bombshell" (hey the media said that every day for four years during Trump so turnaround's fair play)...

Don't Blame Me - I Voted for Gary Johnson

My vote for the Johnson/Weld ticket last time around is looking better and better in hindsight. Hopefully I'll get a chance to vote for Romney/Rubio in 2020.

Mitt Romney's dad lived to be 84 so I'm not concerned about his age. This country needs a person of integrity to right the ship of state and put America back in it's rightful place as the world's leader.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

So Kyrie Irving wants to be traded out of Cleveland? Things are looking better and better for the Celtics... Not a good look for potential digital currencies... When I read that the last of the OJ defenders, F. Lee Bailey, was broke, disbarred and working in a hair salon my honest first thought was "That's nothing compared to the karma coming for those who defended Roger Goodell during Deflategate"... Family Guy's tribute to Adam West... I don't pay much attention to this Trump BS because I keep reminding myself that America could have had Mitt Romney as President right now but you people said no.... Awwww so cute... I want to claim that iceberg the size of Delaware as my own to open a casino and tax free haven... Michael Crichton was 100% right. In most cases it's not Fake News - it's incompetence... This is what a hero looks like... I too had a secret meeting with Don Trump Jr. but our meeting wasn't regarding Hillary. It was about Gary Johnson. I told Don Jr. I had proof that Gary Johnson used pot... Speaking of Gary Johnson. He makes a good argument on the environment and the things we should be doing...

Donald Trump

Now there's no denying exactly what sort of person Donald Trump is and how unfit he is to be President. Bill Maher seems to have summed up the situation when he observed "The GOP now finds itself handcuffed to a dead hooker." Just a few weeks ago the bumper sticker "Trump/Pence 2016 - No Fat Chicks" would have clearly been seen as a joke - now?

Now? Now you know there will be more than one jackass who dresses as Donald Trump for Halloween and later gets arrested for grabbing random women by the pussy.

Good thing that Republicans (and Democrats) have an alternative.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

I'll start the rumor right now - after the NFL season Patriots Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels will be named the new head coach of USC. Makes lots of sense... Chuck Yeager not a fan of Pappy Boyington... For the good of the country - Gary Johnson should allow Belichick/Brady2016 to replace Johnson/Weld2016 on the November ballot... As a reminder - these two guys are responsible for trying to stop the Arizona Cardinals today... Rocky Balboa's first name is Robert - who knew?... In the golf game of life - the year 2016 is a Mulligan... Am I a bad person for laughing at this?...

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

How close to you think we are to Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush publicly endorsing Gary Johnson for President?... Heh heh... It is too bad that 31-year old Steven Wright (12-5, 2.67 ERA) exceeded the Rookie of the Year limits last season (he had 72 innings pitched and the limit is 50). He would be far and away the leader for ROY this season and if he won it - it would be the stuff Disney movies are made of... This is the year!... They say having sex can burn up to 100 calories an hour. I guess that means I burn 8 calories each time I get sexy... Trump's wife isn't the only one who plagiarizes... Backup Gazpacho would be a good name for a band... Heh heh 2... When Trump loses this election I really hope his next job is as celebrity spokesman for Shake Weight... I'm not into Pokemon Go but this is a great story...

Linky Links

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.

- TD Bank getting rid of it's coin counting machines. On a related item - it's time to discontinue the penny.

- How to make a cheese ball machine gun out of a leaf blower. When you see it - most guys will want one. But once you have it - you'd probably use it just once or twice.

- Heh heh - Alien as retold from the cat's perspective

- Gary Johnson up to 10% in Fox News Poll. Just getting started!

Gary Johnson

Between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton - Gary Johnson is the only one I'm willing to cast my vote for this November.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

Not sure what this says about the sport but of all the Muppets I think Beaker would be the most likely to golf and follow the Masters at Augusta National... Have to admit - the idea of President Gary Johnson is growing on me... If I had an advertising agency - I would run a series of  "not people - real actors" commercials... Guy lives out of his truck by choice. He also seems to have decided to be single for the rest of his life. The two decisions seem to go hand in hand. "Hey baby do you to come back to my truck?"... One of the greatest T-shirts of all-time... Chuck Norris Action Jeans would be a good name for a band or for a fantasy baseball team... This is a fantastic story - imagine having to ask your boss if you could have time off to play the Masters...

Easter Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations on this Easter Sunday.

Happy Easter to you and yours!... Between the NeverTrump crowd and the BernieOrBust die hards - I really think there's an opening for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson this November... Grizzly Slippers would be a good name for a band... Everything that's coming and going from Netflix in April... Sad state of social media reality - if Gary Johnson wants to be taken seriously he really needs to have much more than 137,000 Twitter followers... The Passive Aggression of the Christ (I'm going to hell)... Funny how some people who argue that it is wrong to lie to kids about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny still hold fast to the delusion that Obamacare is a workable solution... Not sure what bothered me more as a kid - learning there was no Easter Bunny or learning that Eric Estrada's first name is actually Henry... Yep - I'm going to hell...

Marco Rubio

Marco Rubio lost Florida yesterday and dropped out of the Presidential race last night. That leaves pretty much a Presidential final four of Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Ted Cruz and Donald Trump. The American political landscape is a vast empty wasteland.

I'm not a Republican, I'm a registered Independent who truly believes in voting for the person and not the party but I have supported Republicans for President since Ronald Reagan's re-election. This year I most likely will be checking the box next to Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson (if he's even on the ballot in Massachusetts).

To be honest - I'm pretty disheartened politically this morning.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Miscellaneous thoughts and observations.

No I did not watch the GOP debate last night. I wasn't around a TV. And if I was I probably would have been watching the Boston Bruins game instead anyway... Great - just what we need! More signs of the Apocalypse... Saw a pregnant gal yesterday with thigh-high leather boots with 6-inch heels. My immediate thought was "She'll make a great mother"... Seriously - the GOP Presidential field makes the Cleveland Browns QB situation look stable in comparison... Food That Looks Like Dongs would be an awful name for a band (or for an early bird dinner special)... Trump is polling at 38% vs Hillary Clinton. Here's what 38% looks like... Not for nothing but if Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson is allowed to participate in the debates against Hillary and Trump (if it comes to that) - then Johnson has a real chance to win the election. Nobody really wants to vote for Hillary or Trump... Heh heh... The GOP's new slogan should be "The Republican Party: Embrace the Suck". Have the bumper stickers been made up yet?... Where have you gone George W.? A nation turns its lonely eyes to you... I'm all for marijuana legalization but I am afraid that legal weed could just be a gateway drug to the Metric system... Heh heh - Hillary says she speaks to God daily, but won't reveal her fee...

Ron Paul surge is bigger trouble for Barack Obama than Mitt Romney

I agree with the sentiment behind this post. If Ron Paul ran as a third party candidate - he'd take more votes away from Barack Obama than from Mitt Romney. The Occupy Wall Street, the anti-war crowd and those generally disappointed that Hope and Change resulted in more of the same would find a voice for their protests in Ron Paul. Those people make up some of the very base Obama has been pandering to.

The Republican base and the Independents worried about the economy aren't going to forsake Mitt Romney for Ron Paul. Giving up the fringe to get the center is a very good trade for the presumptive Republican nominee.

A third party run by former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson would also hurt Obama much more than Romney. Johnson on the ballot would attract people whose main issues are the environment or legalizing drugs. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think those people voted for Hope and Change the last time around.

Gary Johnson and Tonight's GOP Debate

Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson now is now polling at 1% and will thus be included in tonight's Fox News - Google Republican debate. I honestly think that the rise in Johnson's visibility is mainly due to the profile of him that was recently in Outdoor Magazine.

Skeptics may say well if what you are saying is true then 100 profiles of Johnson should get him to 100% in the polls. That's silly - of course. I really do think that the Outdoor profile is responsible and I wonder if anyone has asked Johnson if he agrees.

In an article in today's Wall Street Journal - Karl Rove makes an interesting point that four years ago at this point of the campaign Rudy Giuliani was the leading GOP candidate at 28% while Fred Thompson was second at 23%. They of course faded. Will we see similar drop-offs this time around? Is it better to be a lower in the polls dark-horse like Gary Johnson at this point than one of the front-runners? Is this why Sarah Palin is waiting to enter the fray?

Gary Johnson for President

Very interesting profile of former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson who is running for President - to be honest before I saw this article in Outside Magazine I wasn't aware of that fact. And judging by Gary Johnson's visibility in the media - I doubt that I'm alone.

The article is pretty long but I found it compelling reading. I do have to admit that this quote pretty much summed up the Johnson for President situation:
“I’m sure it’s nice to think that there is some way he could become relevant,” says Alex Castellanos, a Republican strategist and frequent CNN contributor. “But there’s no way that’s going to happen. Johnson is the Pluto of Republican political planets. He’s just too far out there to sustain life.”
