If dressing as scary clowns is outlawed - will people dressed as Rex Ryan get arrested?... Bills fan throws "marital aid" onto field during Patriots game. I just love that they call it a marital aid instead of a dildo... Every mention of Anthony Weiner should be prefaced with the words "Jon Stewart's former roommate" just to confuse and conflict Millennials... Why is it "Happy as a clam"? Is it because clams have no brains or feelings?... Scary pumpkin for adults... "Remember - with Great Pumpkin comes great responsibility" - Linus... Seems about right... I'm slowly starting to dislike Rich Eisen as much as Roger Goodell. Eisen's act has grown old... Heh heh... Sandy Koufax's career record in 1-0 games was an astonishing 11-3... In New England yesterday Big Papi played his last regular season game as a member of the Boston Red Sox but viewership of that game was dwarfed by viewership of the last Patriots game without Tom Brady. That shows where the sports priorities are in Boston... Roger Goodell continues to be well liked in Foxboro... A remake of Murder on the Orient Express should go over just as well as the recent remake of Ben Hur... An anagram for "Elon Musk's trip to Mars" is "Trump looms as stinker"... This is the ad the Red Sox ran in yesterday's Boston Globe to honor David Ortiz. It should be noted that both the Red Sox and Globe have the same owner... Every time I find a dead fruit fly in the head of my beer I think, "That's the way he wanted to die"...  Maybe it's just me but I consider the TV remote control as a much bigger invention than sliced bread... All of David Ortiz's Fenway Park HR since 2001... "With Great Pumpkin come great responsibility" - Linus... I don't care about yesterday's win versus the Patriots - I still say that Rex Ryan is just Rich Kotite with better PR and a foot fetish... Heh heh... What question has caused more fights among friends? Last year's "Is the dress blue or gold"? Or this year's "Hillary of Trump"?...

I'll start the rumor right now - after the NFL season Patriots Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels will be named the new head coach of USC. Makes lots of sense... Chuck Yeager not a fan of Pappy Boyington... For the good of the country - Gary Johnson should allow Belichick/Brady2016 to replace Johnson/Weld2016 on the November ballot... As a reminder - these two guys are responsible for trying to stop the Arizona Cardinals today... Rocky Balboa's first name is Robert - who knew?... In the golf game of life - the year 2016 is a Mulligan... Am I a bad person for laughing at this?...

Has any NFL coach with a sub .500 record ever gotten more attention than Rex Ryan and his 48-51 record?... Interesting - here are 5 things Jeremy Affeldt won't miss about baseball after he retires on Sunday... After posting about Maureen O'Hara the other day - I got to wondering what other stars of Hollywood's Golden Age are still not quite bereft of life? Mildly surprised that Kirk Douglas still hasn't joined joined the choir invisible... Surprising gun statistics. Imagine what they would look like if you were able to remove the deaths from Chicago...  Would you consider Sean Connery a member of Hollywood's Golden Age? He's still alive and kicking... Ever notice that in that "skinny legs" Peyton Manning commercial the "regular" legs Peyton Manning is wearing pants throughout? Is that because regular Peyton Manning's legs aren't much bigger?... Rex Ryan checking out Bill Belichick's coaching record... I keep saying it - doesn't Jay Cutler seem like this generation's Jeff George? Are the two guys related?... Cool - a dramatic reading of the Joker's monologue from The Killing Joke... Despite the success last year - things aren't all that rosy in Baltimore this year for the Orioles. Could Dan Duquette be on his way out? If so would Dave Dombrowski consider him for a return engagement at the Red Sox GM?... So true!... I think if you are willing to bet on the WNBA - you would also be willing to gamble on the Special Olympics... Cool site. I'm going have to bookmark it and do a deep dive...

Fantasy Football Thought for the Day

I agree with Rodney Harrison that the Bills most likely will double Rob Gronkowski this Sunday. Rex Ryan took some shots at Mike Tomlin for how the Steelers covered Gronk and Rex will be sure not to make the same mistakes.

Doubling Gronk should free up other Patriot receivers and I'm thinking this strategy in particular should free up Scott Chandler against DB's or a safety in red zone situations. Chandler is making a homecoming to Buffalo and don't think that hasn't escaped Bill Belichick's attention. Don't be surprised to see Chandler catch at least one TD on Sunday.

So I understand that Brian Williams was planning on calling his autobiography "If I Did It" but that title was already taken by OJ Simpson... Gronk with the ceremonial puck spike...

I agree with Ian O'Connor that the Bills basically replaced a 9-7 AFC East coach with a 4-12 AFC East coach. As Bill Parcells would say, "You are what your record says you are"... What me jihad?... True story - I only bet on Ohio State once this year. It was against Virginia Tech... Wow - map of the Internet in the US in 1969... There is a very good chance that Bill Belichick will lead the Patriots to another Super Bowl. Yet when the votes are counted for coach of the year - the award will go to another. Belichick so good that this type of year is just expected... I laughed way too hard at this...

So Rex Ryan bristles when being compared to Herm Edwards reign as HFC of the NYJ? Sometimes the truth hurts.

As pointed out - Edwards went 39-41 as Jets head coach but went to 3 playoffs. Ryan is currently 43-42 as Jets coach but only has 2 playoff appearances. The Jets might not win one game between now and their week 11 bye. If that happens - the bye week might be when the team finally announces the firing of Rex Ryan.

Consider this - Herm Edwards regular season winning percentage as Jets coach was .487. Right now Rex Ryan's winning percentage as head coach is .506 but if loses his next 3 games that falls to .489 and if he loses his next 4 that falls to .483 - worse than Herm Edwards. The next 4 Jets games are against the Broncos, Patriots, Bills, and Chiefs.

Maybe Rex Ryan is so bristly is because he's done the math?

I went to years of Catholic school and we were never told that Saint Peter - the Rock on which Jesus built his church - the first Pope - was married... I so want the Burger King pies guy story to be true... Brown bears went extinct in England in the 10th century. I wonder if any radical environmentalists out there have proposed re-introducing them? Maybe just release a dozen or so in London and see how that goes?...

Red Sox fans love the fact that the Dodgers are on the hook for $15.75 million for Josh Beckett next season... If you want to understand how the Red Sox were built for success this season - you should read this piece by Peter Gammons... Men should not own either a fanny pack or Capri pants. This is non-negotiable... Rex Ryan needs to win 5 more games this season to beat the 5-year coaching record of Herm Edwards who went 39-41 in his time with the Jets... Because kids don't understand history - they probably think "the erection of the Berlin Wall" is something dirty... I still don't understand the logic of college athletics being tax exempt. I think if you removed the tax exempt status then the NCAA would crumble... A friend had a kale smoothie the other day. When he told me I thought he was making a euphemism for a green crap as in "I took a kale smoothie this morning"...

I wonder if medical science came out with evidence that taking steroids saved Roger Clemens from having to get Tommy John surgery whether my opinion would change about either steroids or Clemens?... So how does a 3-D printer work? I've said it before but once they perfect printing 3-D blow-up sex dolls - all the dating sites will go bankrupt... As a fan of the New England Patriots - I love Rex Ryan as the coach of the Jets. In fact they should give him a contract extension... I'm surprised nobody has come out with a Tickle-Me Michael Jackson doll. That would be one of the top gag gifts of all-time... If you watch porn backwards - it tells the story of a woman who gives her man sex so he will clean the pool or deliver some pizzas... Very sad about Linda Rondstadt... When people say they were "born and bred" in a particular place - does that mean their parents specifically had sex in hoping to have a baby in that specific geography? I'm Boston born and bred because my parents wanted to make sure I had the right accent?

Love learning new words. Some of these I knew but others I will try to add to my vocabulary... Saw The Hobbit on opening night. Three things you should know: 1. the book is being broken into two movies which is OK because Tolkein packed a lot of action into that book, 2. the movie is close to 3 hours long (go to the bathroom before the movie!) and 3. some changes were made from the book - how you view these changes will affect how you feel about the movie... O Chemistree, O Chemistree... If you replace the word "ham" with the word "condoms" then Green Eggs and Ham becomes a very strange gay cruising book... Here's a geeky question that bothers me - if you poked out one of Wolverine's eyes would it grow back?... Here's a geeky joke to go with that geeky question: Two chemists walk into a bar - the first orders H2O, the second orders H2O too. The second chemists dies... As a reminder Rex Ryan needs to win the last game of the season to equal Herm Edwards 4-year record with the Jets. If anyone out there still thinks Ryan should keep his job - let that stat sink in...

Mark Sanchez and Matt Leinart

A normal thinking person would probably argue that Mark Sanchez is not the answer for the Jets at QB and that the team has nothing to lose by giving the ball to Tim Tebow. Yet Rex Ryan and those in charge of the NYJ don't seem to be normal thinking people. Too stubborn? Too stupid? Both?

I can't help but keep thinking that Mark Sanchez is no different than fellow USC alumni Matt Leinart except Sanchez was drafted by a team that was determined to sink or swim with their number 1 draft pick while Leinart was drafted by a team run by normal thinking people. Seriously - I bet Matt Leinart wakes up every day thinking "why couldn't I have been drafted by the Jets."

One thing that Tim Tebow doesn't do is turn the ball over. That alone could have meant the difference in a couple of close games for the Jets this season. But instead of going with what will give them the best chance to win - the Jets are sticking with their bonus baby QB. As a Patriots fan - that's just fine with me.

Oh as an aside - I think its funny that that the folks at Pro-Football-Reference.com list Tim Tebow as a tight end (for 2012 season).

Just a reminder but Rex Ryan needs to go 7-9 this season just to equal the 4-year record the Jets had under Herm Edwards. With today's loss the NYJ are now 3-6. Rex Ryan - worse than Herm Edwards?... 55 things you might not know about the US armed services... With the Red Sox signing David Ross - it will be interesting to see whee Jarrod Saltalamacchia gets traded to. I think Salty could really rake in the NL. Most speculation has him going to the Mets... It would be interesting to compare the records of the schools kids transferred to vs Penn State's record. The grass is not always greened... One side effect of Obama being re-elected - 4 more years of incessant gold commercials on Fox News...

Things you never notice and once pointed out can never forget - the nursery rhyme never actually say Humpty Dumpty is an egg... Las Vegas Review-Journal endorses Mitt Romney. Nevada is a key swing state. This is big... Rich Eisen of the NFL Network is promoting changing Matt Ryan's nickname from "Matty Ice" to "the Mattural". I am promoting changing Peyton Manning's nickname to "Horseface".... In 1900 a steak dinner cost $.25 - today a bag of potato chips costs at least double that... A little science humor - the Higgs Bison... Just a reminder but Jets coach Rex Ryan needs to go 7-9 this season just to equal Herm Edwards record in New York. I don't think he'll do it.

I'm a fan of Title IX and the payoff the American public is seeing from all the women's medals at the Olympics makes me very happy... Very cool story of how Mitt Romney became a Texas' couple's landlord... I've mentioned this before but Red Ryan has to go 7-9 this year to equal Herm Edwards' record in Herms first 4 seasons as Jets coach (35-25). I don't think Rex can do it... Incredible panoramic views from the Mars probe Opportunity - did I mention it was incredible?...  The over / under for wins for the New York Jets is 8.5. Looks like the bookmakers aren't sure if Rex is any better than Herm too...

File this under "One of these things is not like the other" - of the four remaining teams in the NBA playoffs - three are coached by men who are considered in the top 4 of NBA coaches. The other team is the Heat... Gates to White House - STFU... Kevin Garnett likes to talk about taking a lot of pride in his "craft." That's why it disappoints me that nobody ever describes him as "crafty". Or even a "crafty vet"... Interesting - resampling the Wisconsin exit polls show that Mitt Romney is either tied or ahead of Barack Obama... Some time in July I plan to strap an old Christmas tree to the roof of my car, dress up in a Santa suit and drive around City Hall 50-times. I'll have someone video the reaction of onlookers... Spooky or cool science? Gravity hills... This joke would be funny if it wasn't so sad that its true. "You can always tell a guy who masturbates a lot by looking at his hands.
